TL;DR: A model for computing perceptual independence was presented and data suggest that at a given moment in time internal noise for different elements in the visual perceptual system, represented by different foveal locations, is uncorrelated.
Abstract: Identification accuracy of forms was studied as a function of the number of simultaneous occurrences of the form on different foveal locations. A model for computing perceptual independence was presented and the data suggest that at a given moment in time internal noise for different elements in the visual perceptual system, represented by different foveal locations, is uncorrelated.

TL;DR: Commercial laser pointers, commonly used for teaching and entertainment purposes, may cause notable macular damage if abused, and this may manifest as foveal retinal pigment epithelial disturbance.

TL;DR: Global excitation produced by oscillating a peripheral square-wave grating back and forth through one-half cycle inhibits the visibility of an incremental test flash only when the flash is presented in the foveal region of the visual field.
Abstract: Global excitation produced by oscillating a peripheral square-wave grating back and forth through one-half cycle inhibits the visibility of an incremental test flash only when the flash is presented in the foveal region of the visual field. This finding is discussed in the context of the neurophysiological periphery effect and shift-effect and their possible role in saccadic suppression.

TL;DR: The term "fixation reflex," as used in this paper, refers to the optomotor reflex responsible for the placement and the maintenance of the image of an object on the fovea.
Abstract: The term "fixation reflex," as used in this paper, refers to the optomotor reflex responsible for the placement and the maintenance of the image of an object on the fovea. Duke-Elder, Linksz, and others have termed the fine adjustments necessary for the continued presence of the same image on the fovea "refixation," and reserve fixation for the initial foveal placement. 1,2 Adler has referred to the fixation reflex in reference only to the maintenance of the image on the fovea after the object of regard has first been captured by what he speaks of as the "following reflexes." 3 As defined for use in this study, the fixation reflex in the newborn has been considered to be only feebly developed, the response being limited to a strong stimulus such as a bright light. 4 For at least the first two weeks of life, most eye movements are said to be

TL;DR: An analytical description of the point spread function for human foveal vision, together with its closed form two-dimensional Fourier transform, the modulation transfer function (MTF), is proposed, which also possesses an analytical line spread function (LSF) counterpart.
