TL;DR: In this article , the authors explain the physical nature of Fresnel diffraction using the examples of the diffraction of acoustic waves at soft and hard half-planes and at large apertures on a black screen.
Abstract: Fresnel diffraction is a fundamental wave phenomenon. This article explains its physical nature using the examples of the diffraction of acoustic waves at soft and hard half-planes and at large apertures on a black screen. It is shown that the shadow radiation by opaque screens plays a central role in these diffraction phenomena. Fresnel-Kirchhoff diffraction at large apertures is presented as an asymptotic form of the shadow radiation. Fresnel and Grimaldi-type diffraction at the soft and hard half-planes is revealed as interference of the shadow radiation and the incident wave.

TL;DR: An innovative method is proposed to extend the utilization of the phase space downstream of a synchrotron light source for X-ray transmission microscopy by asymmetrically cut perfect crystals to reshape the position-angle-wavelength space of the light source, thereby "phase-space-matching" the source with the objective lens of the microscope.
Abstract: We propose an innovative method to extend the utilization of the phase space downstream of a synchrotron light source for X-ray transmission microscopy. Based on the dynamical theory of X-ray diffraction, asymmetrically cut perfect crystals are applied to reshape the position-angle-wavelength space of the light source, by which the usable phase space of the source can be magnified by over one hundred times, thereby "phase-space-matching" the source with the objective lens of the microscope. The method's validity is confirmed using SHADOW code simulations, and aberration through an optical lens such as a Fresnel zone plate is examined via matrix optics for nano-resolution X-ray images.

TL;DR: In this article, a planar focusing and imaging system capable of subwavelength focusing of radiation in the far field of the source was proposed and the Fourier-optics applications of these structures were presented.
Abstract: We propose a new class of planar focusing and imaging systems capable of subwavelength focusing of radiation in the far field of the source and present the Fourier-optics applications of these structures.

TL;DR: In this paper, the results of creating a focusing element for the soft x-ray range are described: amplitude and phase contrast Fresnel zone plates as well as reflected Bragg-Fresnel lenses on the base of multilayer X-ray mirrors.
Abstract: Experimental investigations and special software for the e-beam exposure system gives the possibility of decreasing the influence of proximity effects and field distortion. The results of creating a focusing element for the soft x-ray range are described: amplitude and phase- contrast Fresnel zone plates as well as reflected Bragg-Fresnel lenses on the base of multilayer x-ray mirrors.
