TL;DR: A variable separation approach is developed to overcome the difficulty from the nonstrict-feedback structure and a state feedback adaptive fuzzy tracking controller is proposed, which guarantees that all of the signals in the closed-loop system are bounded, while the tracking error converges to a small neighborhood of the origin.
Abstract: Controlling nonstrict-feedback nonlinear systems is a challenging problem in control theory. In this paper, we consider adaptive fuzzy control for a class of nonlinear systems with nonstrict-feedback structure by using fuzzy logic systems. A variable separation approach is developed to overcome the difficulty from the nonstrict-feedback structure. Furthermore, based on fuzzy approximation and backstepping techniques, a state feedback adaptive fuzzy tracking controller is proposed, which guarantees that all of the signals in the closed-loop system are bounded, while the tracking error converges to a small neighborhood of the origin. Simulation studies are included to demonstrate the effectiveness of our results.

TL;DR: Stability theorems for a discrete-time system as well as for a continuous time system are given and a brief survey on the stability issues of fuzzy control systems is given.
Abstract: Addresses the issue of stability of a fuzzy system described by fuzzy rules with singleton consequents. It first presents two canonical forms of a fuzzy system: a parametric expression and a state-space expression. A fuzzy system with singleton consequents is found to be a piecewise-polytopic-affine system. Then the paper gives stability theorems for a discrete-time system as well as for a continuous time system. It also gives a brief survey on the stability issues of fuzzy control systems.

TL;DR: A theoretical analysis shows that the proposed method provides better or at least the same results of the methods presented in the literature, and the proposed design method is applied in the control of an inverted pendulum.
Abstract: Relaxed conditions for stability of nonlinear, continuous and discrete-time systems given by fuzzy models are presented. A theoretical analysis shows that the proposed methods provide better or at least the same results of the methods presented in the literature. Numerical results exemplify this fact. These results are also used for fuzzy regulators and observers designs. The nonlinear systems are represented by fuzzy models proposed by Takagi and Sugeno (1985). The stability analysis and the design of controllers are described by linear matrix inequalities, that can be solved efficiently using convex programming techniques. The specification of the decay rate, constrains on control input and output are also discussed.

TL;DR: This paper aims to present an overview on fuzzy implication functions that usually are constructed from t-norms and t-conorms but also from other kinds of aggregation operators.
Abstract: One of the key operations in fuzzy logic and approximate reasoning is the fuzzy implication, which is usually performed by a binary operator, called an implication function or, simply, an implication. Many fuzzy rule based systems do their inference processes through these operators that also take charge of the propagation of uncertainty in fuzzy reasonings. Moreover, they have proved to be useful also in other fields like composition of fuzzy relations, fuzzy relational equations, fuzzy mathematical morphology, and image processing. This paper aims to present an overview on fuzzy implication functions that usually are constructed from t-norms and t-conorms but also from other kinds of aggregation operators. The four most usual ways to define these implications are recalled and their characteristic properties stated, not only in the case of [0,1] but also in the discrete case.
