TL;DR: A general approach to quali- tative modeling based on fuzzy logic is discussed, which proposes to use a fuzzy clustering method (fuzzy c-means method) to identify the structure of a fuzzy model.
Abstract: This paper discusses a general approach to quali- tative modeling based on fuzzy logic. The method of qualitative modeling is divided into two parts: fuzzy modeling and linguistic approximation. It proposes to use a fuzzy clustering method (fuzzy c-means method) to identify the structure of a fuzzy model. To clarify the advantages of the proposed method, it also shows some examples of modeling, among them a model of a dynamical process and a model of a human operator's control action.

01 Jan 1991TL;DR: This work combines neural networks and fuzzy systems, presenting neural networks as trainable dynamical systems and developing mechanisms and principles of adaption, self-organization, convergence and global stability.
Abstract: This work combines neural networks and fuzzy systems, presenting neural networks as trainable dynamical systems and developing mechanisms and principles of adaption, self-organization, convergence and global stability. It includes the new geometric theory of fuzzy sets, systems and associated memories, and shows how to apply fuzzy set theory to adaptive control and how to generate structured fuzzy systems with unsupervised neural techniques.

01 Mar 1995TL;DR: The essential part of neuro-fuzzy synergisms comes from a common framework called adaptive networks, which unifies both neural networks and fuzzy models, which possess certain advantages over neural networks.
Abstract: Fundamental and advanced developments in neuro-fuzzy synergisms for modeling and control are reviewed. The essential part of neuro-fuzzy synergisms comes from a common framework called adaptive networks, which unifies both neural networks and fuzzy models. The fuzzy models under the framework of adaptive networks is called adaptive-network-based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS), which possess certain advantages over neural networks. We introduce the design methods for ANFIS in both modeling and control applications. Current problems and future directions for neuro-fuzzy approaches are also addressed. >

TL;DR: Drawing on their extensive experience working with industry on implementations, Kevin Passino and Stephen Yurkovich have written an excellent hands-on introduction for professionals and educators interested in learning or teaching fuzzy control.
Abstract: From the Publisher:
Fuzzy control is emerging as a practical alternative to conventional methods of solving challenging control problems. Written by two authors who have been involved in creating theoretical foundations for the field and who have helped assess the value of this new technology relative to conventional approaches, Fuzzy Control is filled with a wealth of examples and case studies on design and implementation. Computer code and MATLAB files can be downloaded for solving the book's examples and problems and can be easily modified to implement the reader's own fuzzy controllers or estimators. Drawing on their extensive experience working with industry on implementations, Kevin Passino and Stephen Yurkovich have written an excellent hands-on introduction for professionals and educators interested in learning or teaching fuzzy control.
