TL;DR: In this article, a variable displacement compressor includes a housing having therein a space, a rotor eccentrically disposed in the space of the housing, a bypass passage formed in the housing for establishing fluid communication between the compression chamber and the intake chamber and being in the form of a slot, and a device for opening and closing the bypass passage.
Abstract: A variable displacement compressor includes a housing having therein a space, a rotor eccentrically disposed in the space of the housing so as to define a compression chamber and an intake chamber in the housing, a bypass passage formed in the housing for establishing fluid communication between the compression chamber and the intake chamber and being in the form of a slot, and a device for opening and closing the bypass passage which is movable depending on a pressure in the intake chamber in a direction perpendicular to the bypass passage.

TL;DR: In this paper, a system for adjusting a gas turbine firing temperature control algorithm and combustion reference temperature algorithms based on exhaust gas temperature, turbine pressure ratio and compressor discharge temperature for water content in the air entering the compressor differing from the design water content of ambient air is disclosed.
Abstract: A system is disclosed for adjusting a gas turbine firing temperature control algorithm and combustion reference temperature algorithms based on exhaust gas temperature, turbine pressure ratio and compressor discharge temperature for water content in the air entering the compressor differing from the design water content of ambient air. The water content in the ambient air is calculated by the control system from measured data from a dry bulb temperature sensor and a wet bulb temperature or humidity sensor.

TL;DR: In this article, a system is adapted to be vehicle mounted and powered by a D.C. source coupled with an inverter to cool individuals or temperature sensitive hardware under uncomfortable ambient conditions.
Abstract: A system is adapted to be vehicle mounted and powered by a D.C. source coupled with an inverter to cool individuals or temperature sensitive hardware under uncomfortable ambient conditions. The system includes a pumped liquid circulation loop which can be connected by self-sealing lines with cooling garments, temperature sensitive hardware and the like. An evaporative heat exchanger is provided in the loop as well as a liquid reservoir which is sized to limit short cycling of a compressor in a refrigeration loop associated therewith via the evaporative heat exchanger. A hot gas bypass can be associated with the compressor to allow recirculation of the superheated refrigerant gas when cooling is not required.

TL;DR: In this article, the axial compressor of a General Electric J85-13 jet engine was degraded by spraying atomized droplets of saltwater into the engine intake, and the results of laboratory analysis of the salt deposits are presented, providing insight into the increased surface roughness and the deposit thickness and distribution.
Abstract: Gas turbine performance deterioration can be a major economic factor. An example is within offshore installations where a degradation of gas turbine performance can mean a reduction of oil and gas production. This paper describes the test results from a series of accelerated deterioration tests on a General Electric J85-13 jet engine. The axial compressor was deteriorated by spraying atomized droplets of saltwater into the engine intake. The paper presents the overall engine performance deterioration as well as deteriorated stage characteristics. The results of laboratory analysis of the salt deposits are presented, providing insight into the increased surface roughness and the deposit thickness and distribution. The test data show good agreement with published stage characteristics and give valuable information regarding stage-by-stage performance deterioration.
