TL;DR: In this article, a three-position four-way valve is arranged in a pipeline of a compression part and an expansion part of the system and the flowing condition of air in the system is changed by utilizing the feature of change of a turn-on state of the threeposition fourway valve, thus the variation of the manners of serial-connection and parallelconnection between a gas compressor and a turbine is realized, and the overall working efficiency is increased.
Abstract: The invention relates to a compressed-air energy-storage system. A three-position four-way valve is arranged in a pipeline of a compression part and an expansion part of the system and the flowing condition of air in the system is changed by utilizing the feature of change of a turn-on state of the three-position four-way valve, thus the variation of the manners of serial-connection and parallel-connection between a gas compressor and a turbine is realized, and the overall working efficiency is increased. With the adoption of the three-position four-way valve, on one hand, the overall flexibility of the compressed-air energy-storage system is improved, so that the operating of the system is more targeted, and the use of the compressed-air energy-storage system matched with various types of power stations is facilitated; and on the other hand, the service condition of turbomachinery is improved, and the optimized configuration of the turbomachinery according to the needs of energy storage and power generation can be realized.

TL;DR: In this paper, an analysis of the friction losses in a centrifugal compressor stage is used to suggest a new form of correction equation for the effect of Reynolds number on efficiency, which is based on the surface roughness, the impeller outlet width ratio and the work input coefficient.
Abstract: An analysis of the friction losses in a centrifugal compressor stage is used to suggest a new form of correction equation for the effect of Reynolds number on efficiency. This equation relates the effect of Reynolds number to the surface roughness, the impeller outlet width ratio and the work input coefficient. Systematic tests on a wide range of compressor stages are used to calibrate the single empirical coefficient in the equation. Despite its simplicity this equation provides more accurate predictions of the Reynolds number effects than existing empirical methods.

TL;DR: In this paper, a thermodynamic model for a hybrid solar gas-turbine power plant is presented, taking into account the most important losses sources: those coming from heat losses in the solar subsystem, those in the combustion chamber, those associated to the Brayton cycle, and those heat loss in the heat exchangers connecting subsystems.

TL;DR: In this paper, a power system for use in converting solar energy into stored energy available as output power capable of operating diverse types of power-driven units, such as electric generators, air conditioners, etc.
Abstract: A power system for use in converting solar energy into stored energy available as output power capable of operating diverse types of power-driven units, such as electric generators, air conditioners, etc. The power system includes solar heat collector means, a compressor system and power storage means. The solar collector system utilizes the sun's rays to heat a liquid medium, such as a refrigerant or halogen, and convert it into a gas, with the expanded gas being delivered to the compressor system whereby it effects operation of large motor means. The large motor means is integrally connected to a substantially smaller motor means operable to pressurize a compressor gas in accordance with the principle of hydraulic pressurization. The combination of the large and small motor means allows the pressure of the solar heated medium to greatly magnify the pressure developed on the compressor gas, which is transferred to the power storage system. Control means is operatively associated with the large and small motor means and operable to adjust the ratio of pressurization in response to temperature and/or pressure changes in the solar heat collector means. Appropriate valve means, valve operating means and recycling condensors are operatively associated with the compressor system and the solar collector for effecting a continued operation of the power system.

TL;DR: In this paper, the clearance between a seal assembly and a turbine wheel is minimized by forming the seal assembly (48) in part out of a plurality of segments (74) disposed in a circular array and which are relatively movable but sealed to each other.
Abstract: The clearance between a seal assembly (48) and a turbine wheel (16) in an engine of the type having a radial outflow compressor (24) and a radial inflow turbine (16) is minimized by forming the seal assembly (48) in part out of a plurality of segments (74) disposed in a circular array and which are relatively movable but sealed to each other. The thermal stress in the segments (74) will be less than in a single ring resulting in an extended life before the onset of cracking and eventual mechanical failure.
