TL;DR: In this paper, the outer shroud of an axial flow compressor is treated to remove the low momentum flow adjacent the tips of the compressor blades in a judiciously located and sized passageway that removes the low-momentum flow relative to the rotor blades at a location downstream of the blades' leading edge and returned at a position upstream of the point of removal.
Abstract: The outer shroud of an axial flow compressor is treated to remove the low momentum flow adjacent the tips of the compressor blades in a judiciously located and sized passageway that removes the low momentum flow relative to the rotor blades at a location downstream of the blades' leading edge and returned at a location upstream of the point of removal. It being critical that no more than 12% of the total flow in the compressor rotor is removed for treatment. Anti-swirl vanes in the passageway serve to remove or reverse the swirl component from the removed low momentum flow. The intake is so designed that it selectively removes only the weak low momentum flow relative to the rotor and encourages the strong mainstream flow to remain in the main gas stream.

18 Apr 2006TL;DR: In this paper, a system for recirculation of cooled exhaust gas from a vehicle internal combustion engine is described, where the exhaust gas stream is extracted at the low pressure side of the low-pressure side of an exhaust gas turbine.
Abstract: A system for recirculation of cooled exhaust gas from a vehicle internal combustion engine includes an internal combustion engine ( 2 ) having an intake system ( 6 ) and an exhaust gas system ( 3 ), an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) line ( 10 ) that contains an exhaust gas cooler ( 12 ), an exhaust gas turbine ( 4 ) arranged in the exhaust gas system, ( 3 ) and a charge air compressor ( 7 ) and a charge air cooler ( 8 ) arranged in the intake system ( 6 ) The exhaust gas stream is extracted at the low pressure side ( 9 ) of the exhaust gas turbine ( 4 ) An exhaust gas compressor ( 13 ) is arranged in the EGR line ( 10 ), and the recirculated exhaust gas stream can be fed to the intake system downstream of the charge air cooler ( 8 )

16 Nov 2006TL;DR: In this article, an integrated gasification combined cycle system is presented, which includes an ion transport membrane air separation unit for producing oxygen-enriched gas and oxygen-depleted air.
Abstract: An integrated gasification combined cycle system. In one embodiment (FIG. 2 ) a system ( 200 ) includes an ion transport membrane air separation unit ( 210 ) for producing oxygen-enriched gas ( 209 ) and oxygen-depleted air ( 227 ), a gasification system ( 5 ) for generating syngas with the oxygen-enriched gas ( 209 ), a gas combustor ( 234 ) for reacting the syngas ( 224 ), and a subsystem configured to provide a first stream of air to the combustor ( 234 ) at a first pressure and to provide a second stream of air to the air separation unit ( 210 ) at a second pressure greater than the first pressure. The subsystem includes a compressor ( 230 ) having multi-pressure outlets ( 203, 204 ).

TL;DR: In this article, a controlled refrigeration system includes a plurality of refrigerant compressors fed from a common suction manifold (line). Each compressor is associated with a respective controller.
Abstract: A controlled refrigeration system includes a plurality of refrigerant compressors fed from a common suction manifold (line). Each compressor is associated with a respective controller. The individual controllers are set to effect the cutting in of its associated compressor at different levels of input voltage from a pressure transducer using digital techniques. The individual controllers each produce respective digital cut-in, cut-out, down-time delay and power-up delay signals. Respective logic circuitry is provided within each controller for producing control outputs which effect the energization and deenergization of the individual controllers. The compressors are turned on and off in sequence as the demand for compression respectively increases and decreases. The power-up delay period differs for each controller so that no more than one is energized at a given time when the system comes on line after a power failure or extended period of shut down.
