Abstract: A low charge protection method for an electronically controlled variable displacement compressor. In each period of compressor operation, a low charge test sequence is carried out to monitor the system performance once the system control pressure has been reduced below a specified level. In a set-up phase of the test, the compressor is down-stroked to near-minimum displacement for a predetermined time or until the system control pressure rises above a reference level. At such point, the compressor is up-stroked to near-maximum displacement to initiate a pull-down phase of the test. If the system pressure is reduced by specified amount within a reference interval, a failed test is indicated and the count in a nonvolatile counter is incremented. If the pull-down duration exceeds the reference interval, a passed test is indicated, and the count, if any, is decremented. When the nonvolatile count exceeds a specified threshold, the compressor is disabled and further operation is prevented until the count is reset by a service technician.

Abstract: A positive displacement rotary compressor is in circuit with a closable chamber disposed upstream of the compressor gas inlet and including a conduit operable to be placed in communication with the compressor discharge conduit. A control circuit is operable to sense compressor discharge pressure and at a predetermined pressure condition sequentially operate valves to shut off compressor inlet flow thereby evacuating the chamber and then placing the compressor discharge port in communication with the chamber. The compressor thereby runs unloaded or at idle at a greatly reduced inlet and discharge pressure. The operation of unloading the compressor may be controlled by sensing the chamber vacuum or by the use of time delay devices.

A number of compressor/turbine units are downstream of the fan and upstream of the turbine along a core flowpath. A number of compressors are coupled to the compressor/turbine units to receive air and deliver combustion gas to drive the turbine.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To certainly carry out automatic restarting after automatic stopping of an engine in a vehicle carrying out the automatic stopping/automatic restarting of the engine. SOLUTION: The vehicle is provided with an electric compressor constituting at least an air conditioner and a high pressure battery for feeding power to a motor/generator. At the time of automatic restarting of the engine, the ECU (vehicle control device) for carrying out an instruction of the automatic stopping and the automatic restarting of the engine stops the electric compressor by a predetermined condition.
