TL;DR: In this paper, a mean streamline performance analysis for centrifugal compressor impellers is presented, along with similar procedures for stationary components, previously published in the open literature, and detailed validation of the analysis against experimental data has been accomplished for over a hundred stages, including stage flow coefficients from 0.009 to 0.15 and pressure ratios up to about 3.5.
Abstract: Aerodynamic performance prediction models for centrifugal compressor impellers are presented. In combination with similar procedures for stationary components, previously published in the open literature, a comprehensive mean streamline performance analysis for centrifugal compressor stages is provided. The accuracy and versatility of the overall analysis is demonstrated for several centrifugal compressor stages of various types, including comparison with intrastage component performance data. Detailed validation of the analysis against experimental data has been accomplished for over a hundred stages, including stage flow coefficients from 0.009 to 0.15 and pressure ratios up to about 3.5. Its application to turbocharger stages includes pressure ratios up to 4.2, but with test uncertainty much greater than for the data used in the detailed validation studies.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a turbofan engine with high and low pressure compressors, where the low pressure compressor rotates in a direction counter to the direction of rotation of the fan.
Abstract: The disclosure describes a turbofan engine having high and low pressure compressors wherein the low pressure compressor, or booster, comprises two counter rotating elements, a rotating duct which carries fan blades on its exterior surface and compressor blades on its interior surface and a conventional compressor rotor which rotates in a direction counter to the direction of rotation of the rotating duct. Alternative gearing schemes for coupling the rotation of the fan to the rotation of the low pressure compressor are shown.

TL;DR: In this paper, an exhaust gas recirculation line extends between the exhaust gas duct upstream of the turbine and the air supply duct downstream of the turbocharger, where cooling and heating means are arranged in the exhaust manifold.
Abstract: In an internal combustion engine with an exhaust gas recirculation system and an exhaust gas turbocharger having a turbine arranged in an exhaust gas duct and a compressor operated by the turbine and being disposed in an air supply duct for supplying charge air to the engine, an exhaust gas recirculation line extends between the exhaust gas duct upstream of the turbine and the air supply duct and downstream of the compressor. Cooling means are arranged in the exhaust gas duct and heating means are arranged in the air supply duct upstream of the compressor to permit the generation of a pressure differential between the exhaust gas duct and the air supply duct which provides for an exhaust gas recirculation flow through the exhaust gas recirculation line over a large engine operating range.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the electrical, mechanical and metallurgical design, construction and testing of a novel, low-cost, high-speed, high efficiency induction motor to drive a new type of small centrifugal compressor in industrial cooling applications.
Abstract: This paper describes the electrical, mechanical and metallurgical design, construction and testing of a novel, low-cost, high-speed, high-efficiency induction motor to drive a new type of small centrifugal compressor in industrial cooling applications. The 28 shaft HP, 50 krpm motor features a unique laminated rotor with a multi-function, high-strength copper alloy cage brazed with a novel process. Relatively thin, high-silicon steel laminations were used to achieve low losses and high mechanical strength at low cost. Different heat-treatments for the stator and rotor laminations were used to optimize the mechanical and magnetic properties. The pre-prototype motors achieved about 94% (electromagnetic) efficiency at the rated point, including inverter harmonics, while meeting cost (less than one tenth of aerospace practice) and produceability goals.

TL;DR: In this article, a variable speed compressor and an indoor fan for controlling the rate of air flow over the evaporator coil has been used to improve humidity control in an air conditioner system.
Abstract: An air conditioner system of the type having a variable speed compressor and an indoor heat exchanger having a variable speed fan for controlling the rate of air flow over the evaporator coil has a controller which employs the benefits of variable speed compressors and the variable indoor fan to improve humidity control. During a normal cycle when the relative humidity is below a setpoint, the compressor speed is varied as a function of cooling demand between a minimum compressor speed and full compressor speed. The fan speed is varied generally linearly with the compressor speed between a minimum fan speed and full fan speed. When the humidity level is above the setpoint, the relationship between compressor speed is altered to increase the amount of dehumidification. The minimum compressor speed is increased, while the minimum air flow speed remains the same. The compressor speed is then controlled between this higher minimum speed and full speed, while the fan speed is controlled between minimum fan speed and full fan speed.
