Abstract: Gas-gas heaters (GGHs) are used to reheat gases through desulfurization in coal-fired power plants to reduce low-temperature corrosion and white smoke. Wrinkled heating elements are installed inside the GGH to perform effective heat exchange. An optimization study of the heating element shape was conducted to reduce the differential pressure effectively and improve performance. An integrated analysis model was applied. Based on actual operational data, a computational fluid dynamic analysis was conducted on the L-type heating element and GGH system. The experiments applied the optimal latin hypercube sampling method, and numerical analysis was performed for each sample. Based on the response surface, the result of the sample was optimized through the pointer algorithm. For the integrated analysis model, validation was performed by comparison with the actual operational data, and the thermal-fluid characteristics of the heating element and GGH system were analyzed to set three parameters: plate angle, undulated angle, and pitch 1. From the optimization result, increases in the undulated angle and pitch 1 reduce the pressure drop by widening the heating element cross section. By increasing the plate angle, the heat transfer area is secured and the reduced heat transfer coefficient is compensated, improving the GGH performance.

Abstract: An investigation was conducted into a failure of convection section tubes in a process gas heater in a steel-making company. Thorough study using various characterisation techniques showed that the failure of the tubes, which were made of low-alloyed steel ASTM A335 P22, was attributed to metal dusting. The attack was accelerated because of the use of incompatible tube material for the intended operating conditions. Moreover, thermal fatigue cracks were discovered on the tube surfaces. Such cracks might have been caused by the high number of plant start-ups and shutdowns. Failure contributing factors and recommendations to avoid similar failure are discussed in this article.

Abstract: In this paper high the ice accumulated on the wind turbine blade is removed by passing hot air through the blade. The hollow tubes are embedded in the wind turbine blades. The hollow tubes may be circular on cross section or of any suitable shape. The air is heated by an electrical heating or by gas geyser. First the air is compressed with help of a compressor. Then that air is passed through the electric heater or gas heater. The hot air is then passed through the wind turbine blade. When the hot air is passed through the wind turbine blade, the ice melts and falls down. Hot air is passed through the wind turbine blade after frequent intervals of time when the environmental conditions are favorable for icing. The process of deicing is fast.
