TL;DR: In this paper, an overdrive mechanism disposed between a torque converter and change gear mechanism of an automatic transmission and responsive to the change gears mechanism is presented. But it is not shown in this paper.
Abstract: An overdrive mechanism disposed between a torque converter and change gear mechanism of an automatic transmission and responsive to the change gear mechanism. An input shaft to the change gear mechanism consists of two sections that are coupled by a clutch during normal power transmission. The driving section of the input shaft is connected to the turbine runner of the torque converter. A planetary gear train has a carrier operatively responsive to the pump impeller of the torque converter and a sun gear controlled by an overdrive brake. When the brake locks the sun gear against rotation during overdrive, the ring gear of the planetary gear train is rotated by the pump impeller and drives the second section of the input shaft through the clutch. The clutch is disengaged from the driving section of the input shaft during overdrive, thus by-passing power transmission from the turbine runner of the torque converter to the changer gear mechanism.

Abstract: A relatively inexpensive simplified type of split-torque power transmission. A simple planetary gear assembly is employed having a carrier connected to the input with a set of planet gears, a ring gear, and a sun gear. Suitable speed-varying means are used, such as two variable-stroke hydraulic units, each having rotary shafts and driving relation therewith, the two units being hydraulically connected together so that one serves as a pump while the other serves as a motor, and vice versa. Two gear trains respectively connect the ring gear to the first rotary shaft and the sun gear to the second rotary shaft. A first clutch means connects the first rotary shaft in driving relation to the output means, and a second clutch means connects the second rotary shaft in driving relation to the output shaft. A three-range transmission and a four-range transmission are also shown.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a drive system for mining apparatus employing chains, which has a fluid control circuit coupled to a ring gear of planetary gearing transmitting drive from a motor.
Abstract: A drive system, particularly for mining apparatus employing chains, which has a fluid control circuit coupled to a ring gear of planetary gearing transmitting drive from a motor. The control circuit has a pump drivably coupled to the ring gear and the fluid outlet from the pump can be blocked to lock the ring gear and permit transmission of force through the planetary gearing. In the event of abnormal loading the outlet from the pump is opened automatically to allow fluid to flow at a pre-determined flow rate. This in turn allows the ring gear to rotate to break the transmission and the system can be gently braked without danger.

TL;DR: An emergency or back-up Hydraulic System for use with a primary hydraulic system in motor operated equipment is disclosed in this article, which includes a motor driven pump and a wheel driven pump for supplying hydraulic fluid to the steering system of the vehicle.
Abstract: An Emergency or back-up Hydraulic System for use with a primary hydraulic system in motor operated equipment is disclosed. The system illustrated is a steering system for a vehicle and includes a motor driven pump and a wheel driven pump for supplying hydraulic fluid to the steering system of the vehicle. The motor driven pump and the wheel driven pump are connected in series so that the fluid discharged from the motor driven pump is supplied to the inlet of the wheel driven pump. The inlet of the wheel driven pump also communicates with the reservoir as for example through the anticavitation check for the engine driven pump. By-pass connections are provided around the wheel driven pump so that fluid in excess of the demands of that pump are channelled to the steering circuit when the engine driven pump is in operation. The system disclosed provides that the demands of the wheel driven pump are met by the engine driven pump and/or the reservoir depending upon the relative speeds and capacities of the engine and the wheel driven pumps. The system disclosed is flow limiting so that the steering or other hydraulic system is not overwhelmed when both pumps are in operation.

TL;DR: In this article, an external gear pump is installed in an eight-shaped compartment of a central housing section which is flanked by two covers, and the outlet port of the housing communicates with two arcuate recesses for metallic inserts which are biased against the adjacent gears.
Abstract: An external gear pump wherein the gears are installed in an eight-shaped compartment of a central housing section which is flanked by two covers. The outlet port of the housing communicates with two arcuate recesses for metallic inserts which are biased against the adjacent gears by fluid pressure in the outlet port whereby the inserts urge the gears against those portions of the internal surface of the central housing section which are located opposite the recesses. Such portions of the internal surface are formed with narrow first cutouts which communicate with the outlet port. The internal surface is further formed with relatively wide additional cutouts which are located between the first cutouts and the recesses and communicate with the inlet port. The force which is produced by fluid in the cutouts opposes the force which urges the gears against the internal surface of the central housing section to thus reduce the force with which the stubs of the gear shafts are urged against the housing.

TL;DR: In this article, a continuously variable power transmission system uses hydraulically controlled belt pulleys to vary the transmission ratio, where the primary pressure is set at a constant value to give the required transmission ratio.
Abstract: A continuously variable power transmission system uses hydraulically controlled 'V' belt pulleys to vary the transmission ratio. The input pulley consists of a fixed section (4) coupled to the input shaft (1). The moving side of the pulley is formed by a hydraulic piston (3). A similar unit is used for the output pulley with the exception that the piston diameter (6) is smaller than the input piston. The pressure applied to the output stage (Ps) is determined by the spring rating (16) of a relief valve (14) in the supply line from a gear pump (13). The pump output is also taken over a spool valve (18) to regulate the pressure (Pp) applied to the input pulley. Once the secondary pressure has been set at a constant value the primary pressure (Pp) may be regulated to give the required transmission ratio.
