A gear-shaping machine comprises a cutter body 82 pivoted transversely of the direction of movement of a cutter-carriage 23 and having oppositely-directed cutting-edges, and a pair of displacers 64a, 65a to position the cutter body alternately against a pair of abutments 84, 85 on the carriage. The displacers are actuated by fluid-pressure as described in Specification 724,262. The working positions of the cutter are adjusted by moving the abutments 84, 85 longitudinally. Specification 554,115 also is referred to.
