TL;DR: In this paper, high-porosity geopolymers, with homogeneous microstructure, open cells and porosity up to 80vol%, were fabricated by gel-casting, a process commonly used to produce ceramic foams.

••
TL;DR: In this article, a new mixing technique, in which a small amount of fly ash was mixed with cement, slag and water and allowed to react for a period of time before an aggregate and residual fly ash were added, was proposed.

••
TL;DR: In this article, a fly ash and slag mixture is decomposed by selectively dissolving calcium silicate hydrate and geopolymer product and subtracting FTIR spectra of the insoluble residue from the original material to determine IR spectrum of the material dissolved.

••
TL;DR: In this article, electron micrographs of a well-cured polysialate siloxo geopolymer (silica:alumina ratio 2:1) prepared from metakaolinite reveal a microstructure consisting of a glass-like matrix containing metakolinite relicts and impurity quartz grains.

01 Jan 2009TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss the different solutions that are used as activators in geopolymer synthesis: alkali metal hydroxides and silicates, and the phase behaviour, speciation and physical properties of different potential activating solutions are discussed.
Abstract: This chapter discusses the different solutions that are used as activators in geopolymer synthesis: alkali metal hydroxides and silicates. The phase behaviour, speciation and physical properties of different potential activating solutions are discussed. The use of alternative activators is also briefly mentioned.
