TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose that cultural intelligence is an essential learning capability that leaders can use to translate their international experiences into effective experiential learning in culturally diverse contexts, and they use this capability to improve their ability to manage effectively in multicultural environments.
Abstract: Globalization requires business leaders who can manage effectively in multicultural environments. Although many organizations assume leaders will enhance their multicultural skills through international assignments, it is unclear how leaders translate these international experiences into knowledge and skills that enhance their effectiveness. Based on experiential learning theory (ELT), we propose that cultural intelligence (CQ) is an essential learning capability that leaders can use to translate their international experiences into effective experiential learning in culturally diverse contexts.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors conduct a global literature review and develop a viewpoint on the most critical success factors required to develop a global leadership mindset, which is the author's viewpoint.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of the paper is to conduct a global literature review and develop a viewpoint on the most critical success factors required to develop a global leadership mindset.Design/methodology/approach – The paper takes the form of a global literature review and the author's viewpoint.Findings – Global leadership development must be driven by an organization's global business strategy. Having “global” experiences at work does not guarantee effective global leadership. The acquisition of a true global mindset enables leadership effectiveness in a global capacity. As cultural and business complexity increase so does the demand for a global mindset, almost exponentially given the intersect of this complex environment.Practical implications – Methods for global leadership development include examination, education, experience and exposure.Originality/value – The paper provides a fresh perspective.

TL;DR: This paper used data from the Global Leadership and Organiza tional Effectiveness (GLOBE) project to analyze the degree to which four aspects of ethical lead-ership -character/integrity, altruism, collective motivation, and encouragement -were endorsed as important for effective leadership across cultures.
Abstract: The western-based leadership and ethics literatures were reviewed to identify the key characteris tics that conceptually define what it means to be an ethical leader. Data from the Global Leadership and Organiza tional Effectiveness (GLOBE) project were then used to analyze the degree to which four aspects of ethical lead ership - Character/Integrity, Altruism, Collective Motivation, and Encouragement ? were endorsed as important for effective leadership across cultures. First, using multi group confirmatory factor analyses measurement equiva lence of the ethical leadership scales was found, which provides indication that the four dimensions have similar meaning across cultures. Then, using analysis of variance (ANOVA) tests each of the four dimensions were found to be universally endorsed as important for effective leadership. However, cultures also varied significantly in the degree of endorsement for each dimension. In the increasingly global business environment, these findings have implications for organizations implementing ethics programs across cultures and preparing leaders for expa triate assignments.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors address the role of integrity in global leadership and suggest that both contractarianism and pluralism are particularly helpful in understanding ethics from a global leadership perspective, and provide helpful suggestions on how global leaders can define appropriate ethical standards for themselves and their organizations.
Abstract: This paper addresses the role of integrity in global leadership. It reviews the philosophy of ethics and suggests that both contractarianism and pluralism are particularly helpful in understanding ethics from a global leadership perspective. It also reviews the challenges to integrity that come through interactions that are both external and internal to the company. Finally, the paper provides helpful suggestions on how global leaders can define appropriate ethical standards for themselves and their organizations.
