TL;DR: The Asian Century cannot rise without value creation, innovation, and financial transformation as mentioned in this paper, which is the basic features of the new economy that China, Japan, and South Korea are creating for multiple-year productivity growth.
Abstract: The Asian Century cannot rise without value creation, innovation, and financial transformation. Mobile phones, smart devices, e-commerce, software applications, fintech, and robotics are basic features of the new economy that China, Japan, and South Korea are creating for multiple-year productivity growth. Asia adopts these creative disruptions early on, then innovates, and scales them up into global leaders. Digital finance, digital identification, social media, and big data are the four digital enablers that Asia has developed well, along with broadband internet connectivity. The digital economy is flourishing in Asia because of its large and young populations and rising middle classes, especially in China, India, and ASEAN. It is transforming both urban and rural areas in pre- and post-LTP countries.

TL;DR: In this paper, the Euro-Atlantic crisis and its consequences are analyzed in the context of globalization, and the authors highlight the need to rethink current global and local processes becomes more relevant and urgent.
Abstract: IntroductionContemporary world system creates more problems than it solves. There are a multitude of pretensions for global leadership imposed by different states, macro regions and civilizations. However, efforts to build well-balanced international cooperation framework cooperation have constantly failed. There is also a constant change in world power hierarchy. De-democratization processes within Western civilization have created new waves of crises in the Euro-Atlantic area, as well as in other regions of the world. The interdependence of global and national crises has become deeper and more unpredictable. The efforts of world leaders to tackle some of the problems rarely go beyond political rhetoric and hopeless agreements. So, the need to rethink current global and local processes becomes more relevant and urgent. However, the reconsideration, which is based on old categories, formats and mechanisms, does not seem capable enough to solve contemporary global problems, to address current global challenges and to prevent the emergence of the new ones. And this is a fact - we have not been ready to manage it. For that reason, the global system needs a deep conceptual update based on the recent needs of the humanity. The research arranged in a logical sequence, where first chapter is dedicated to the macro regions growth and global leadership issues; and the second is devoted to the analysis of civilizational interactions in the context of globalization. Therefore, the goal of this research concentrates on two key issues:1. World balance of power: origins and consequences of the Euro-Atlantic crisis. Macro regions in the global system: difficulties and opportunities.2. Civilization-based models of globalization: is there any efficient one for present developments? How national interests transform under the influence of globalization?MethodologyIt utilizes an integrated approach to analyse two thematic issues. Comparative method helped to highlight characteristics of different models of globalization. Meanwhile, the systemic method was used to investigate system of international relations and its basic elements, as well as to define the interaction between them within a global whole. Furthermore, the civilizational approach served to study different models of globalization and to analyse some conflicts in contemporary international relations. It was determined rising polarization of differences between civilizations can cause conflicts and initiate serious confrontations (Huntington, 1997: 21-27). The author of the clash of civilizations theory, Samuel Huntington, predicted that in the XXI century a new world order will be formed, which would not be based on ideological confrontation - as it was in the XX century - but on the inter-civilization one, with interreligious feature1. These findings were taken into account in this article, but stressed that nowadays there is an internal conflict within these civilizations, and it is the biggest challenge that modern international system faces. Finally, the application of civilizational approach together with globalist approach, to complex research of large-scale global issues, helped to reflect a panorama of growing interdependence of countries and civilizations within a single global system.I. Global Leadership and Grown Multi-polaritya.The Euro-Atlantic CrisisThe information revolution actualized, strengthened and exacerbated the problems of global inter-civilization relations - interreligious, interethnic and intercultural dimensions. Migration flows diversified and became one of the most difficult challenges of contemporary globalization. Asia, Africa, Latin America and the new post-Soviet democracies have begun to defend and reaffirm actively their own interests, traditions and culture on the international arena (Bilorus, 2013: 6).In the meantime, what has become increasingly clear today is the failure of the experiment to "export" the universal model of democracy as conceived in the Western civilization to another. …

TL;DR: It is suggested that the UK-EU research partnership has been mutually beneficial and that its continuation represents the best possible outcome for both negotiating parties, however, the uncertainties raised by Brexit necessitate looking beyond the EU for potential research partners.
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the role of the European Union (EU) as a research collaborator in the UK’s success as a global leader in healthcare research and innovation and quantify the impact that Brexit may have. Design Network and regression analysis of scientific collaboration, followed by simulation models based on alternative scenarios. Setting International real-world collaboration network among all countries involved in robotic surgical research and innovation. Participants 772 organisations from industry and academia nested within 56 countries and connected through 2397 collaboration links. Main outcome measures Research impact measured through citations and innovation value measured through the innovation index. Results Globally, the UK ranks third in robotic surgical innovation, and the EU constitutes its prime collaborator. Brokerage opportunities and collaborators’ geographical diversity are associated with a country’s research impact (c=211.320 and 244.527, respectively; p Conclusions This study suggests what has long been argued, namely that the UK-EU research partnership has been mutually beneficial and that its continuation represents the best possible outcome for both negotiating parties. However, the uncertainties raised by Brexit necessitate looking beyond the EU for potential research partners. In the short term, the UK’s best strategy might be to try and maintain its academic links with the EU. In the longer term, strategic relationships with research powerhouses, including the USA, China and India, are likely to be crucial for the UK to remain a global innovation leader.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors apply Anderson's notion of imagined communities to argue that the Super Global High Schools (SGH) project was developed based on an image of a global elite and that it reflected an ideology in which global leadership competencies are universal, trainable, tangible, and measurable.
Abstract: Starting in 2014, as part of the nation’s effort to train future global leaders, the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports Science and Technology (MEXT) designated 56 high schools as “Super Global High Schools” (SGH). Their goal is to develop global leadership competencies that go beyond simply fluency in English or acquiring specific knowledge, which were the goals of earlier projects. In order to understand the nature of the global leadership competencies that the SGH project is trying to develop, we examined the winning high school proposals in 2014, MEXT’s evaluation criteria for those proposals, the characteristics of the schools selected, and the activities undertaken as part of the SGH project. We apply Anderson’s (1991) notion of imagined communities to argue that the SGH project was developed based on an image of a global elite and that it reflects an ideology in which global leadership competencies are universal, trainable, tangible, and measurable. In reality, however, we argue that they are more likely to be multi-dimensional and highly context-dependent. Developing such competencies therefore requires substantial conceptual and practical changes in Japanese education. In addition, we find that the current SGH model focuses on select Japanese nationals that come from privileged backgrounds.

TL;DR: In this paper, the role of line managers transformational leadership in developing the global leadership competencies of their respective subordinates, with the theoretical support of the Transformational Leadership theory, is emphasized.
Abstract: Developing the global leadership bench strength by advancing the global leadership competencies of high potential employees is a critical concern for Multinational Corporations (MNCs), to achieve sustainable competitive advantage. Accordingly, the main purpose of this paper is to emphasize the role of line managers transformational leadership in developing the global leadership competencies of their respective subordinates, with the theoretical support of the transformational leadership theory. For the above purpose, data were collected from line manager-high potential dyads, using a structured questionnaire developed using well accepted, standard measures. Upon completion of preliminary analyses, the hypothesis was tested. From the regression analyses, it was found that there is a major impact of line manager's transformational leadership in the development of global leadership competencies of high potential subordinates. This finding is consistent with the transformational leadership theory and other empirical studies in the area and suggests the development of line manager's transformational leadership competencies for the purpose of developing the global leadership bench strength in MNCs.
