TL;DR: The general assumption underpinning the debate is that leadership can be taught in some form as mentioned in this paper, which is confirmed in the number of university leadership centres across the world (eg Lancaster, Exeter and INSEAD in Europe; Auckland in New Zealand; and Washington, Northwestern and Pennsylvania in the US).
Abstract: While there is debate around the impact of leadership education and development on practice, the general assumption underpinning the debate is that leadership can be taught in some form This is reected in the number of university leadership centres across the world (eg Lancaster, Exeter and INSEAD in Europe; Auckland in New Zealand; and Washington, Northwestern and Pennsylvania in the US) There are also non-university organizations such as the Center for Creative Leadership (US), which has a global reach, and the Asian Leadership Institute (Thailand and Canada) that oer a variety of leadership programmes Many business schools across the world are re-packaging MBA programmes around global, strategic or executive leadership – as opposed to management And this is not just the purview of business schools Kellerman (2013: 136) says that at Harvard University, where she works, ‘virtually every single one of its professional schools boasts the words “leader” or “leadership” in its mission statement’ The Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan Fellows programme in innovation and global leadership promises a ‘deep reservoir of resources’, ‘expanded skills and capabilities’ and a ‘change-the-world toolkit’,1 which is typical of many top-ranked programmes

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide a theory for creating an entrepreneurship milieu that nurtures the formation of new organizations in electronics and information technology industries based on sociological and knowledge management theories.
Abstract: This paper attempts to provide a theory for creating an entrepreneurship milieu that nurtures the formation of new organisations in electronics and information technology industries. It is based on sociological and knowledge management theories. The success stories of global leadership in the microelectronics industry in Silicon Valley, USA and the semiconductor industry in Hsinchu Industrial Park, Taiwan provide the empirical testing ground for the theory. Based on this theory, the action plan for nurturing an entrepreneurship milieu in the software industry in Bangalore, India are policies to foster inter-organisation relationships, human resources development, infrastructure development and a champion who can provide a visionary leadership.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compare modern university model with classic one and conclude that in the context of knowledge capitalism universities become the means of competition for global leadership in the high technologies.
Abstract: The university model of enterprise type of 21st century is analyzed. The transfer of classical university model into entrepreneurial one presents a threat to the university cultural mission. The Science and Education become more valuable as they produce knowledge, which becomes an item of goods. The authors compare modern university model with classic one. Following the hermeneutical method, the modern epoch is presented as a period of economic mercantilism and knowledge is interpreted as symbolic capital. In addition to that, the formation premise of the education market and open knowledge market are analyzed. The transformation of university structures is explored in the context of knowledge capitalization process. The article shows the knowledge as a source of innovation and the university as a result of commercial competition. The interconnection between the modern university and the mainstreaming of research project results into new technologies is based on contractual relationship (treaty relations). This relationship is defined by the term «innovation zone», which presents the final phase of the innovation cycle. We conclude that in the context of “knowledge capitalism” universities become the means of competition for global leadership in the high technologies.
