TL;DR: In this article, the authors present general observations on the relevance of Shinto and Buddhism and the Japanese consciousness, and the authors make a comparison between the two sources of inspiration for the development of Japanese culture and consciousness.
Abstract: Certain conditions which characterized Japan as a nation as well as its climate contributed to the formation of an inherent Japanese culture and consciousness. There are views and analyses from two research streams used to explain the backbone of Japanese consciousness. The first is Shinto as described in the Kojiki and Nihonshoki. Prior to its establishment as a nation state (predating the period of Shotoku Taishi), Japan had hardly ever been exposed to outside influences due to its geographical isolation as an island nation. In that environment, a localized religion which celebrated the worship of ancestral gods and which eventually developed into Shinto was establishing solid foundations. The second stream was Buddhism which was officially introduced to Japan in 538. Shotoku Taishi (574–622) embraced Buddhism at a young age and after becoming regent, incorporated the teachings of Buddha into a constitution (Seventeen Article Constitution) as a framework for governing the state, thereby establishing for the first time a basic foundation for a Japanese state. This milestone had a significant influence in the establishment of the inherent consciousness and culture of the Japanese people thereafter. This initiative was interpreted by some as an effort by Shotoku Taishi to integrate Shinto and Buddhism (the syncretization of Shinto with Buddhism) to maintain the stability of the Japanese state. In the next section, the authors will present general observations on the relevance of Shinto and Buddhism and the Japanese consciousness.

TL;DR: The One Belt and One Road (OBOR) initiative as mentioned in this paper is an economic offensive which marks Beijing's departure from a low-profile legacy onto the world stage to realize Xi Jinping's Grand Strategy for realizing China's rejuvenation.
Abstract: China's "One Belt and One Road" (OBOR) initiative is an economic offensive which marks Beijing's departure from a low-profile legacy onto the world stage to realize Xi Jinping's Grand Strategy for realizing China's rejuvenation. Strategic tension between the PRC and the USA alliance has been accelerating since 2011, while the United States has persistently carried out a rebalancing strategy to restore her leadership in the Asia-Pacific region. Nevertheless, China's aim to create another center of global leadership with the OBOR initiative has intensified the great power competition to a new scale, covering geographic, economic and financial sectors. While China tries to construct some sort of Beijing-centric economic interdependence zone apart from the global chain of production relying largely on USA leadership, China's OBOR project has polarized the world rather than forged a stabilized society for the anticipated new world order. However, while the OBOR is in one way a solution to reverse China's economic slowdown; nevertheless, it will also create a deep hole which will exhaust China's economic dynamism, and exert a great impact on global economic stability.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compare Portland's green infrastructure implementation strategies to those known around the world, and utilize themes found in those strategies to create a survey on local green infrastructure initiatives in the Portland area.
Abstract: Green infrastructure has become increasingly popular as a way to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change in urban environments. Cities all over the world, including Portland, have developed their own strategies which inform local organizations on the actions they should take to be climate resilient - and many of these strategies include the implementation of green infrastructure. This thesis compares Portland's green infrastructure implementation strategies to those known around the world, and utilizes themes found in those strategies to create a survey on local green infrastructure initiatives in the Portland area. This information will be important for conservationists to exchange information on innovative approaches to climate change adaptation that are being taken, and identify areas where more focus is needed in the future.

TL;DR: The SDGs pose a call to action to all of humanity to end global poverty, and protect the planet while promoting shared prosperity and building peace as mentioned in this paper. But despite the comprehensiveness of the consultation process, there was dissatisfaction among human rights advocates who felt the SDGs did not adequately reflect input from global leaders outside political spheres.
Abstract: The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) pose a call to action to all of humanity to end global poverty, and protect the planet while promoting shared prosperity and building peace. This chapter will explore some of the 17 SDGs, mainly health related, from a human rights framework and their relevance today and in the future. It will specifically focus on key areas of good health and well-being (SDG3), quality education (SDG4), gender equality (SDG5), decent work and economic growth (SDG8), reduced inequalities (SDG10), and climate action (SDG13) and specifically in terms of their implementation in Africa. The chapter focuses on the rights and duties of all people with an emphasis on our common humanity and the global commons. Despite the comprehensiveness of the consultation process, there was dissatisfaction among human rights advocates who felt the SDGs did not adequately reflect input from global leaders outside political spheres.
