Abstract: The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) illustrates China’s increasing interest in and influence on the global economy. German companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), are beginning to notice the rapid changes in their business environment. Some of them are starting to think differently about their strategy on China and China’s BRI corridors. Because of this new situation, the author will provide some facts and background to advise German SMEs of understanding and participating in the ongoing change. In this regard the following questions will be answered: What has been changed in the last 40 years in China and why will an ambitious China with BRI become a global leader? What are the touch points in the industry between Germany and China and how would they be expected in the future? The author would like to raise awareness of the importance for German SMEs to take BRI more into account strategically. In this article the author wants to particularly address the invisible but very important aspect of cross-cultural understanding, which significantly influences strategic decisions of management in German SMEs.

TL;DR: The case study highlights two Partners in Health country sites in Haiti and Liberia which showcase nursing leadership as a mechanism to improve patient care but also showcase the realities of developing and improving the nursing profession in challenging conditions as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: Although numbering almost 20.7 million globally, nurses are difficult to identify within health focused nongovernmental organizations despite delivering the majority of health services in the sector (WHO, Global strategic directions for strengthening nursing and midwifery: 2016-2020, global-strategic-midwifery2016-2020.pdf, 2016). Partners In Health, a Boston-based NGO recognized as a leader in global health delivery, provides a retrospective case study documenting the organization’s roots and the evolution of nursing within its history. The case study highlights two Partners in Health country sites in Haiti and Liberia which showcase nursing leadership as a mechanism to improve patient care but also showcase the realities of developing and improving the nursing profession in challenging conditions. This chapter provides tangible steps and lessons learned that can benefit any health care provider interested in opportunities to work with NGOs.

Abstract: The article addresses China as a country which actively creates and effectively exploits the potential of intellectual capital in interests of social and economic development. Aim of the study is to identify key factors and strategies of a global competitive leadership of China on the basis of effective use of national innovation and intellectual potential. Ukrainian scientific and educational institutions can take advantage of potential cooperation with Chinese partners. Analysis of the objectives, programs and plans made it possible to identify the main stages of development of education, science and technology in China. Becoming conscious of negative effects of the Cultural Revolution, including the loss of higher education for social and economic development, China started reforms of national system of science and education (1-st stage - 1975 - 1994). Priorities of 2-nd stage (1995 - 2005) were deepening reforms, shaping the points of growth, sustainable funding, early integration of national innovation system into global. Securing a strong position in global scientific and educational space, increased funding, reforms for achieving global leadership and becoming innovative nation through effective implementation of intellectual capital in some sectors occurs during 3-rd stage (2006 - present). Targeted government policies to increase human capital, formation of world-class universities, along with development of IPR protection lead to increase in the number of scientific papers and patents that provide leading international position of China. In the near future China is expected to implement a strategy of transition from quantitative indicators to high quality of scientific and educational complex and improving IPR protection.
