TL;DR: A new tracing algorithm is described that supports haptic rendering of NURBS surfaces without the use of any intermediate representation and by using this tracing algorithm in conjunction with algorithms for surface proximity testing and surface transitions, a complete haptic render system for sculptured models has been developed.
Abstract: A new tracing algorithm is described that supports haptic rendering of NURBS surfaces without the use of any intermediate representation. By using this tracing algorithm in conjunction with algorithms for surface proximity testing and surface transitions, a complete haptic rendering system for sculptured models has been developed. The system links an advanced CAD modeling system with a Sarcos force-reflecting exo-skeleton arm. A method for measuring the quality of the tracking component of the haptic rendering separately from the haptic device and force computation is also described. TL;DR: In this paper, a computer based video/graphics display system includes a computer system (22) having a graphics generator (24), a video signal from a video source (28) is fed through an input stage (26) to an asynchronous converter (30), the converter synchronises the video signal to the graphics generator, and the combined signal output from the fading/mixing matrix is fed to a computer display monitor (14).
Abstract: A computer based video/graphics display system includes a computer system (22) having a graphics generator (24). A video signal from a video source (28) is fed through an input stage (26) to an asynchronous converter (30). The converter (30) synchronises the video signal to the graphics generator (24). The output from the asynchronous converter (30) and the output from the graphics generator (24) are fed to a fading/mixing matrix (34). The combined signal output from the fading/mixing matrix is fed to a computer display monitor (14). The system allows the mixing or windowing of computer graphics and a video image on a common display.

TL;DR: A renderer that achieves 106 Mtri/s on an 8-node cluster using Lightning-2 to perform sort-last depth compositing is demonstrated, and it is demonstrated that this renderer can be upgraded across multiple generations of graphics accelerators with little effort.
Abstract: Clusters of PCs are increasingly popular as cost-effective platforms for supercomputer-class applications. Given recent performance improvements in graphics accelerators, clusters are similarly attractive for demanding graphics applications. We describe the design and implementation of Lightning-2, a display subsystem for such a cluster. The system scales in both the number of rendering nodes and the number of displays supported, and allows any pixel data generated from any node to be dynamically mapped to any location on any display. A number of image-compositing functions are supported, including color-keying and depth-compositing. A distinguishing feature of the system is its platform independence: it connects to graphics accelerators via an industry-standard digital video port and requires no modifications to accelerator hardware or device drivers. As a result, rendering clusters that utilize Lightning-2 can be upgraded across multiple generations of graphics accelerators with little effort. We demonstrate a renderer that achieves 106 Mtri/s on an 8-node cluster using Lightning-2 to perform sort-last depth compositing.

TL;DR: A spectrum of algorithms for rectification of document images for camera-based analysis and recognition of planar surfaces to remove the perspective effect and computing the frontal view needed for a typical document image analysis algorithm is described.
Abstract: In this paper, we describe a spectrum of algorithms for rectification of document images for camera-based analysis and recognition. Clues like document boundaries, page layout information, organisation of text and graphics components, apriori knowledge of the script or selected symbols etc. are effectively used for removing the perspective effect and computing the frontal view needed for a typical document image analysis algorithm. Appropriate results from projective geometry of planar surfaces are exploited in
