14 Mar 1991TL;DR: In this article, pixel arithmetic and logical units for rendering pixels in graphics systems are provided, including opcode registers for selecting an arithmetic function which transforms pixel value data corresponding to graphics primitives.
Abstract: Pixel arithmetic and logical units for rendering pixels in graphics systems. Circuits for performing arithmetic operations on raster scan data are provided. The circuits comprise opcode registers for selecting an arithmetic function which transforms pixel value data corresponding to graphics primitives, multiplication circuits interfaced with the opcode registers for multiplying graphics operators with graphics data to obtain transform pixel value data, combining circuits interfaced with the multiplication circuits for adding transform pixel value data to existing pixel value data and processing circuitry interfaced with the combining circuitry for storing overflow data from the combining circuitry when adding transform pixel data overflows the combining circuitry.

12 Mar 2012TL;DR: In this article, the playback apparatus realizes stereoscopic viewing by overlaying planar or stereoscopic graphics over stereoscopic video in a way that reduces eye strain using following method in abstract: a graphics plane holds data composed of graphics data.
Abstract: The playback apparatus realizes stereoscopic viewing by overlaying planar or stereoscopic graphics over stereoscopic video in a way that reduces eye strain using following method in abstract: A graphics plane holds therein data composed of graphics data. A shift engine shifts, in a case when a composition unit composites the graphics data with a left-view video frame, coordinates of each of the pixels is shifted in a first horizontal direction, and in a case when the composition unit composites the graphics data with a right-view video frame, coordinates of each of the pixels is shifted in a second horizontal direction that is opposite to the first direction.

10 May 2009TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an efficient implementation of a high performance parallel framework for agent-based modeling (ABM), exploiting the parallel architecture of the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU).
Abstract: We present an efficient implementation of a high performance parallel framework for Agent Based Modelling (ABM), exploiting the parallel architecture of the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). It provides a mapping between formal agent specifications, with C based scripting, and optimised NVIDIA Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) code. The mapping of agent data structures and agent communication is described, and our work is evaluated through a number of simple interacting agent examples. In contrast with an alternative, single machine CPU implementation, a speedup of up to 250 times is reported.

15 Oct 2007TL;DR: This paper addresses the practical problem of automating the process of translating figures from mathematics, science, and engineering textbooks to a tactile form suitable for blind students by creating a more detailed workflow, translating actual images, and analyzing the translation time.
Abstract: We address the practical problem of automating the process of translating figures from mathematics, science, and engineering textbooks to a tactile form suitable for blind students. The Tactile Graphics Assistant (TGA) and accompanying workflow is described. Components of the TGA that identify text and replace it with Braille use machine learning, computational geometry, and optimization algorithms. We followed through with the ideas in our 2005 paper by creating a more detailed workflow, translating actual images, and analyzing the translation time. Our experience in translating more than 2,300 figures from 4 textbooks demonstrates that figures can be translated in ten minutes or less of human time on average. We describe our experience with training tactile graphics specialists to use the new TGA technology.
