Abstract: Efficient view registration with respect to a given 3D reconstruction has many applications like inside-out tracking in indoor and outdoor environments, and geo-locating images from large photo collections. We present a fast location recognition technique based on structure from motion point clouds. Vocabulary tree-based indexing of features directly returns relevant fragments of 3D models instead of documents from the images database. Additionally, we propose a compressed 3D scene representation which improves recognition rates while simultaneously reducing the computation time and the memory consumption. The design of our method is based on algorithms that efficiently utilize modern graphics processing units to deliver real-time performance for view registration. We demonstrate the approach by matching hand-held outdoor videos to known 3D urban models, and by registering images from online photo collections to the corresponding landmarks.

While retaining the currency and accuracy of the larger book, this abbreviated version focuses on topics essential for all beginners in computer graphics and provides expanded explanations for readers with little or no technical background. Worked examples have been added to illustrate important concepts and techniques, and program code has been written in the C language to enhance the book's usefulness. In addition, the book contains an extensive illustration program, with more than 50 full-color images. Topic coverage includes basic graphics programming, hardware, and applications. Important algorithms are included to facilitate implementation of both 2D and 3D graphics. A separate chapter covers SPHIGS—a simplified dialect of the PHIGS 3D standard—and coincides with the availability of an updated version of the software. Chapter 9 and presents a concise overview of interaction issues and techniques. Abstract: The use of style sheets in an electronic publishing system is described. A style sheet is a collection of formatting information, such as font and tabs in a textual document. The style sheets described herein are applied to individual display regions (controls) on a page. Unlike previous systems, the display regions in this system do not contain any text at the time the style sheet is applied. Rather, the text, or other media such as graphics, is poured into the display region when the title is rendered on the customer's computer.
