TL;DR: Investigation of the extent to which landmark information and the combinations of subsequent decisions improve navigation shows that traffic related context and "chunking" of route guidance information has positive effects on driver behaviour.
Abstract: Navigation in an unfamiliar area is a very demanding task of the average driver. The support quality of a route guidance system depends strongly on an optimal way of presenting information to the driver. The work described in this paper investigates the extent to which landmark information and the combinations of subsequent decisions improve navigation. Data gathered in a driving simulator and field test show that traffic related context and "chunking" of route guidance information has positive effects on driver behaviour. TL;DR: The results indicate that the haptic guidance has assisted participants in learning of motor skills in its cognitive and associative stage of learning.
Abstract: Haptic fidelity has been increasingly emphasized in MIS simulators however the real benefits of the simulated environments are mostly under-exploited for MIS Simulation and Training. In this paper we discuss the use of augmented forces such as haptic guidance in our laparoscopic simulator for improving learning curve. A simple virtual environment has been designed to simulate advanced MIS tasks such as cutting. A simple haptic guidance system has been implemented to provide a guiding force pulling a novice trainee along the ideal motion path for manipulating the laparoscopic tools. An experiment has been designed to compare the time taken by two groups of participants with and without guidance for the cutting procedure. The results indicate that the haptic guidance has assisted participants in learning of motor skills in its cognitive and associative stage of learning.

TL;DR: A combined defense and navigational system on a naval vessel is described in this paper, which includes a track-while-scan pulse radar which is controlled to provide either navigational information or tracking information on selected targets.
Abstract: A combined defense and navigational system on a naval vessel is disclosed The disclosed system includes a track-while-scan pulse radar which is controlled to provide either navigational information or tracking information on selected targets Additionally, the disclosed system includes a plurality of guided missiles, each of which may be vertically launched and directed toward intercept of a selected target either by commands from the track-while-scan radar or from an active guidance system in each such missile The invention herein described was made in the course of or under a contract or subcontract thereunder, with the Department of Defense

TL;DR: In this article, an improved airframe body decoupling system for a body gimballed sensor on an interceptor aircraft or guided missile is presented, where the true measure of sensor position is differentiated and then externally decoupled to produce the desired line of sight rate for use by the guidance/control section of the proportional navigation guidance system.
Abstract: An improved airframe body decoupling system for a body gimballed sensor on an interceptor aircraft or guided missile. Body rate gyro information is employed for internal decoupling so as to eliminate decoupling match sensitivity to receiver errors. The true measure of sensor position from the gimballed antenna potentiometer is differentiated and then externally decoupled to produce the desired line-of-sight rate for use by the guidance/control section of the proportional navigation guidance system.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a guidance system consisting of 14 connectable guidance parts, of the same length as the track parts, which can be attached to the track part or integrated into them.
Abstract: The system has an active or passive guidance system arranged along the route. The vehicles contains sensor arrangements which respond to the guidance system and influence their steering mechanisms. Flat tracks of stiff material laid along the route are divided into easily handled, purpose formed parts (10a-10c) connectable together using mechanical clip, bolt or plug-in connector arrangements. The guidance system contains connectable guidance parts (14), esp. of the same lengths as the track parts, which can be attached to the track parts or integrated into them.
