TL;DR: The authors used topic modeling combined with manual validation to identify recurrent problem frames and topics in thousands of tweets by gun rights and gun control groups following the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, shooting.
Abstract: Agenda setting and issue framing research investigates how frames impact public attention, policy decisions, and political outcomes. Social media sites, such as Twitter, provide opportunities to study framing dynamics in an important area of political discourse. We present a method for identifying frames in tweets and measuring their effectiveness. We use topic modeling combined with manual validation to identify recurrent problem frames and topics in thousands of tweets by gun rights and gun control groups following the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, shooting. We find that each side used Twitter to advance policy narratives about the problem in Parkland. Gun rights groups’ narratives implied that more gun restrictions were not the solution. Their most effective frame focused on officials’ failures to enforce existing laws. In contrast, gun control groups portrayed easy access to guns as the problem and emphasized the importance of mobilizing politically to force change.

TL;DR: The use of country made guns or "Desi-Kattas" for criminal activities are rising in an exponential manner in India as discussed by the authors, which is reflected by the fact that in the year 2011 about 88% of all ‘murders by the use of firearms were committed by ‘illegal and unlicensed’ ones.
Abstract: The use of country made guns or ‘Desi-Kattas’ for criminal activities are rising in an exponential manner in India. Even though India has a very tough gun control act, it is home to the world's second largest civilian firearms in the world. This is reflected by the fact that in the year 2011 about 88% of all ‘murders by the use of firearms’ were committed by ‘illegal and unlicensed’ ones. Whenever a case of Desi-katta firearm injury is presented to the autopsy surgeon, he should refrain from making any categorical remarks especially with respect to range as most of them are derived from western literature which cannot be blindly applied to Desi-Kattas. Nevertheless it is appalling to know that little scientific research has been done in this field. There is an urgent need for multi-disciplinary and multi-centric research in order to understand this menace.

TL;DR: Henkoff et al. as mentioned in this paper examined the increase in juvenile violence in the United States with a focus on prevention as a cure, and suggested that there are several things which can be done to reduce violence including: programs to help parents with parenting skills, programs that teach children how to manage anger nonviolently, and policies which increase gun control.
Abstract: VioLit summary: OBJECTIVE: The objective of this article by Henkoff was to examine the increase in juvenile violence in the United States with a focus on prevention as a cure. METHODOLOGY: This article was a non-experimental exploration of youth homicide, abuse and suicide. FINDINGS/DISCUSSION: The number of youth arrested for murder has increased 55% in the last decade. Youth arrested for other violent crimes and adolescent abuse have both increased as well. Child abuse and neglect has increased 40% since 1985. Records from the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) indicate that more adolescents die from gunfire than from any illness. NCHS records also indicate that homicide is the second leading cause of death for juveniles between the ages 15 through 19 and the leading cause for African Americans in the same age group. Juvenile violence affects African Americans most with exception of suicide, which affects Anglo Americans more. Guns are a major concern regarding adolescent violence in that more than 75% of adolescent homicides involve firearms and most adolescent suicides are committed with guns. AUTHOR'S RECOMMENDATIONS: The author suggested that there are several things which can be done to reduce violence including: programs to help parents with parenting skills, programs that teach children how to manage anger nonviolently, and policies which increase gun control. TL;DR: In this article, the authors explore the theoretic and policy implications of the assumption that the objective of gun ownership is to enhance the security of gun owners and their associates and conclude that increased gun ownership may be one possible way to reduce crime.
Abstract: This paper explores the theoretic and policy implications of the assumption that the objective of gun ownership is to enhance the security of gun owners and their associates. Security is defined as the probability of not being victimized in a criminal assault and not suffering accidental injury or death in a gun-related incident. An elementary mathematical model is constructed and analyzed. This model and controversial data currently available lead to the conclusion that the percentage of the population owning guns should be larger than now it is. This result does not imply that gun ownership should be made more accessible. Gun ownership may be one possible way to reduce crime. Other ways to achieve this objective are better police control, education, socio-economic justice, etc. The possibility that these alternatives are more effective crime deterrents is not explored in this paper, nor in the studies that provided the data. This evaluation is needed before deciding whether increased gun ownership is the policy that should be adopted in order to reduce crime.

TL;DR: For example, the authors found that women living in households where there are no children twelve and under are more likely to own a gun than those living in families with no children in the household, and the percentage of women who own a firearm fluctuates between a high of 27.4 percent reached in 1977 and a low of 8.1 percent recorded in 1991.
Abstract: Although there is a large body of literature on the determinants of handgun ownership, most of the studies have focused on males and very little is known about the social correlates of gun ownership among American women. In this study, we use the NORC General Social Survey data (1973–1991) to examine the social correlates of gun ownership among a national sample of American women who are the only adult in the household. Descriptive statistics and analysis of variance results reveal that the percentage of women who have a gun at home has fluctuated between a high of 27.4 percent reached in 1977 and a low of 8.1 percent recorded in 1991. Ownership tends to be higher among women who are from rural counties, predominantly southern, married, and between 50–59 years old. Moreover the study found that gun ownership was more prevalent among women who oppose gun control legislation and who support the death penalty. The study found that women living in households where there are no children twelve and under are mo...
