TL;DR: It is found that ions can produce harmonics comparable in strength to those obtained from neutrals, and that the emission extends to much higher order.
Abstract: We present calculated optical harmonic spectra for atoms and ions in the high intensity regime to current short-pulse experiments. We find that ions can produce harmonics comparable in strength to those obtained from neutrals, and that the emission extends to much higher order. Simple scaling laws for the strength of the harmonic emission and the maximum observable harmonic are suggested. These results imply that the photoemission observed in recent experiments in helium and neon contains contributions from ions as well as neutrals.

TL;DR: In this article, a generalization of the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) subharmonic method for controlling single-phase or three-phase multilevel voltage source inverters (VSIs) is considered.
Abstract: A generalization of the PWM (pulse width modulation) subharmonic method for controlling single-phase or three-phase multilevel voltage source inverters (VSIs) is considered. Three multilevel PWM techniques for VSI inverters are presented. An analytical expression of the spectral components of the output waveforms covering all the operating conditions is derived. The analysis is based on an extension of Bennet's method. The improvements in harmonic spectrum are pointed out, and several examples are presented which prove the validity of the multilevel modulation. Improvements in the harmonic contents were achieved due to the increased number of levels. >

TL;DR: In this paper, a decomposition of the spectral density function matrix is introduced for the modal identification of output-only systems, i.e. in the case where the modality parameters must be estimated without knowing the input of the system.
Abstract: In this paper a new frequency domain technique is introduced for the modal identification of output-only systems, i.e. in the case where the modal parameters must be estimated without knowing the input exciting the system. By its user friendliness the technique is closely related to the classical approach where the modal parameters are estimated by simple peak picking. However, by introducing a decomposition of the spectral density function matrix, the response spectra can be separated into a set of single degree of freedom systems, each corresponding to an individual mode. By using this decomposition technique close modes can be identified with high accuracy even in the case of strong noise contamination of the signals. Also, the technique clearly indicates harmonic components in the response signals.

TL;DR: In this article, the exact analytical solution of a cantilevered piezoelectric energy harvester with Euler-Bernoulli beam assumptions is presented, and the resulting expressions for the coupled mechanical response and the electrical outputs are then reduced for the particular case of harmonic behavior in time and closed-form exact expressions are obtained.
Abstract: Cantilevered beams with piezoceramic layers have been frequently used as piezoelectric vibration energy harvesters in the past five years. The literature includes several single degree-of-freedom models, a few approximate distributed parameter models and even some incorrect approaches for predicting the electromechanical behavior of these harvesters. In this paper, we present the exact analytical solution of a cantilevered piezoelectric energy harvester with Euler–Bernoulli beam assumptions. The excitation of the harvester is assumed to be due to its base motion in the form of translation in the transverse direction with small rotation, and it is not restricted to be harmonic in time. The resulting expressions for the coupled mechanical response and the electrical outputs are then reduced for the particular case of harmonic behavior in time and closed-form exact expressions are obtained. Simple expressions for the coupled mechanical response, voltage, current, and power outputs are also presented for excitations around the modal frequencies. Finally, the model proposed is used in a parametric case study for a unimorph harvester, and important characteristics of the coupled distributed parameter system, such as short circuit and open circuit behaviors, are investigated in detail. Modal electromechanical coupling and dependence of the electrical outputs on the locations of the electrodes are also discussed with examples.
