TL;DR: In this paper, simple expressions for optimum absorber parameters are derived for undamped one degree-of-freedom main systems for harmonic and white noise random excitations with force and frame acceleration as input and minimization of various response parameters.
Abstract: In recent papers the author has shown that when determining optimum parameters for an absorber which minimizes the vibration response of a complex system, the latter may be treated as an equivalent single degree-of-freedom system if its natural frequencies are well separated. Emphasis was on minimizing the displacement response when the excitation was a harmonic force. In the present paper simple expressions for optimum absorber parameters are derived for undamped one degree-of-freedom main systems for harmonic and white noise random excitations with force and frame acceleration as input and minimization of various response parameters. These expressions can be used to obtain optimum parameters for absorbers attached to complex systems provided that optimization is with respect to an absolute, rather than a relative, quantity. The requirement that the natural frequencies should be well separated is investigated numerically for the different cases. The effect of damping in the main system on optimum absorber parameters is investigated also.

TL;DR: A systematic analysis of harmonic stability in the future power-electronic-based power systems reveals that the linearized models of ac–dc converters can be generalized to the harmonic transfer function, which is mathematically derived from linear time-periodic system theory.
Abstract: The large-scale integration of power electronic-based systems poses new challenges to the stability and power quality of modern power grids. The wide timescale and frequency-coupling dynamics of electronic power converters tend to bring in harmonic instability in the form of resonances or abnormal harmonics in a wide frequency range. This paper provides a systematic analysis of harmonic stability in the future power-electronic-based power systems. The basic concept and phenomena of harmonic stability are elaborated first. It is pointed out that the harmonic stability is a breed of small-signal stability problems, featuring the waveform distortions at the frequencies above and below the fundamental frequency of the system. The linearized models of converters and system analysis methods are then discussed. It reveals that the linearized models of ac–dc converters can be generalized to the harmonic transfer function, which is mathematically derived from linear time-periodic system theory. Lastly, future challenges on the system modeling and analysis of harmonic stability in large-scale power electronic based power grids are summarized.

TL;DR: Adapt virtual output impedance is proposed in order to achieve a proper reactive power sharing regardless of the line impedance unbalances and can be properly shared due to the addition of a current harmonic loop in the control strategy.
Abstract: In this paper, a method for the parallel operation of inverters in an ac-distributed system is proposed. This paper explores the control of active and reactive power flow through the analysis of the output impedance of the inverters and its impact on the power sharing. As a result, adaptive virtual output impedance is proposed in order to achieve a proper reactive power sharing, regardless of the line-impedance unbalances. A soft-start operation is also included, avoiding the initial current peak, which results in a seamless hot-swap operation. Active power sharing is achieved by adjusting the frequency in load transient situations only, owing to which the proposed method obtains a constant steady-state frequency and amplitude. As opposed to the conventional droop method, the transient response can be modified by acting on the main control parameters. Linear and nonlinear loads can be properly shared due to the addition of a current harmonic loop in the control strategy. Experimental results are presented from a two-6-kVA parallel-connected inverter system, showing the feasibility of the proposed approach

TL;DR: In this paper, a technique for the measurement of kinematic properties of a wind field in situations of widespread precipitation, using a single Doppler radar to sense the motion of the precipitation particles, is proposed.
Abstract: A technique is proposed for the measurement of kinematic properties of a wind field in situations of widespread precipitation, using a single Doppler radar to sense the motion of the precipitation particles. The technique is an extension of ideas put forward by Probert-Jones, Lhermitte, Atlas, Caton and Harrold, and is based upon the Velocity-Azimuth Display (VAD) obtained by scanning the radar beam about a vertical axis at a fixed elevation angle. Harmonic analysis of the VAD permits divergence to be obtained from the magnitude of the “zeroth” harmonic, wind speed and direction to be obtained from the amplitude and phase of the first harmonic, and resultant deformation and the axis of dilatation to be obtained from the amplitude and phase of the second harmonic. Although limitations to the accuracy of this technique are imposed by inhomogeneities in the horizontal distribution of precipitation fall speed and, in the presence of strong vertical wind shear, by elevation angle errors and reflectivi...

TL;DR: In this article, a hybrid system consisting of a proportional integral (PI) controller plus a generic hth harmonic resonant controller implemented in a frame rotating at the n th harmonic frequency is discussed in detail.
Abstract: Voltage source inverters connected to the grid in applications such as active rectifiers, active filters, uninterruptible power supplies, and distributed generation systems need an optimal ac current control. To obtain zero steady-state error at the fundamental frequency (i.e., unity power factor), the use of a standard integrator in a rotating frame is as effective as the use of a resonant controller in a stationary frame. However, the grid voltage harmonics influence the current controller and generate current harmonics unless several integrators in multiple rotating frames or resonant compensators in a stationary frame are adopted. In this letter, a hybrid system consisting of a proportional integral (PI) controller plus a generic hth harmonic resonant controller implemented in a frame rotating at the n th harmonic frequency is discussed in detail. The hth harmonic controller is able to decrease both the (h - n)th and (h + n)th harmonics, while the PI controller is able to decrease other harmonics if the synchronization phase signal adopted for the frame transformation is unfiltered. It is demonstrated that the use of a PI and sixth harmonic resonant compensator is effective for both positive and negative sequence fifth and seventh harmonics; hence, four harmonics are compensated with the proportional integral-resonant (PI-RES) controller implemented in a synchronous frame. Simulation and experimental tests validate the proposed analysis
