TL;DR: Hop extract in pre-isomerized, optionally pre-reduced, is extracted with aqueous KOH to give potassium isohumulate of 80%+ and preferably 90%+ purity as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: Hop extract in, e.g., hexane, pre-isomerized, optionally pre-reduced, is extracted with aqueous KOH to give potassium isohumulate of 80%+ and preferably 90%+ purity. The hexane phase containing the remainder of the isohumulones is stripped of solvent and is suitable for kettle addition. In order to prevent foaming during subsequent concentration, the aqueous extract containing about 6% solids is acidified to a pH less than the pK a of isohumulone and is concentrated under reduced pressure. After concentration, the material is treated with KOH to form the water soluble isohumulone salt which is added to beer post-kettle. At a critical optimum pH range, dependent upon the ratio of water to hexane phase used in the initial extraction, from 0.1 to 0.75 of the isohumulones may be extracted in the highly purified form. A generalized technique for establishing conditions that will give such desired fractions and residues is disclosed.

TL;DR: In this paper, a debittered, high lecithin-containiing oil is obtained by admixing the resultant lipid extract with aqueous alcohol and then effectuating an oil phase separation therefrom.
Abstract: Soybean solids and lecithin oils essentially free from objectionable flavors and odors are obtained by initially extracting undesirable lipid components from oil containing seed materials. These undesirable lipids can be extracted with an azeotropic mixture of hexane and alcohol. A debittered, high lecithin-containiing oil is obtained by admixing the resultant lipid extract with aqueous alcohol and then effectuating an oil phase separation therefrom. The oil, essentially free from the undesirable lipid contaminants, is recovered from the hexane-oil phase.

TL;DR: The polypeptide polyγ-(n-dodecyl)-L-glutamate (PDLG) is soluble in hydrocarbon solvents such as hexane, cyclohexane, and dodecane as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: The polypeptide poly-γ-(n-dodecyl)-L-glutamate (PDLG) is soluble in hydrocarbon solvents such as hexane, cyclohexane, and dodecane. The CD spectra of PLDG in these solvents are reported here. These spectra are typical α-helix spectra and show none of the wavelength shifts and magnitude changes displayed by partially helical proteins in membrane preparations. This observation rules out the possibility that the membrane protein CD spectra result from solvent effects. The PDLG helix is stable in dodecane up to at least 70 °C. However, it is easily disrupted by trifluoroacetic acid, with the helix–coil transition centered at 3% TFA in hexane. Viscosity measurements of PDLG in dry dichloroacetic acid exhibit polyelectrolyte effects which can be suppressed by addition of several percent water.

TL;DR: Approximately 12,000 female Diabrotica virgifera LeConte were extracted with hexane and part of the resulting extract (oil) was column chromatographed to obtain various ether/hexane fractions to determine the most attractive fraction.
Abstract: Approximately 12,000 female Diabrotica virgifera LeConte were extracted with hexane. Part of the resulting extract (oil) was column chromatographed to obtain various ether/hexane fractions. Crude and ether/hexane fractious were bioassayed in the laboratory and in the field. In the laboratory, the 5% ether/hexane fraction was the most attractive; in the field, acetone extracts of the crude hexane extract showed that 500 or more female equivalents were necessary to attract more than 10 males per trap during the testing period.

Abstract: In a urea dewaxing process, a powdery adduct, capable of being effectively separated by centrifuging, is formed at a temperature range of from about 20 DEG to 40 DEG C. if particular oil solvent mixtures are employed. Useful solvent mixtures are a C5-C6 hydrocarbon such as isopentane, hexane or benzene plus a higher boiling organic compound such as methylisobutylketone.

TL;DR: In this paper, a general radio-gas chromatographic analysis system was developed for hydrogen and c1 to c7 alkanes and alkenes, which was a combination of: (1) stop-flow, (2) recycle, (3) center-cut, stepwise temperature programming and (5) stepwise pressure programming techniques.
Abstract: LBL-1249 A general radio-gas-chromatographic analysis system has been developed for hydrogen and c1 to c7 alkanes and alkenes. Peaks were monitored at a constant flow rate in the same detector (a beta proportional counter) and the injection volume was large. A system of four columns used in series gave adequate resolution of more than twenty products from the whole sample. This system was a combination of: (1) stop-flow, (2) recycle, (3) center-cut, (4) stepwise temperature programming and (5) stepwise pressure programming techniques.
