TL;DR: In this article, a procedure to determine total oil content of pecan was developed for samples weighing 500 and 10 mg by supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) with carbon dioxide as the extraction solvent, and chilled hexane as the trapping solvent.
Abstract: A procedure to determine total oil content of pecan was developed for samples weighing 500 and 10 mg by supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) with carbon dioxide as the extraction solvent, and chilled hexane as the trapping solvent. Fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) were prepared from the total lipid fraction by using either an aliquot (500 mg starting weight) or the entire extract (10 mg starting weight). Total oil content obtained for either sample size with SFE was similar to that obtained with an organic solvent extraction technique. The fatty acid composition for the total lipid fraction of oils extracted with SFE was the same as for oils extracted with organic solvents, and oil composition did not change during SFE. Both oil yield and fatty acid composition were similar to those reported previously for pecan. Samples could be extracted and placed into FAME-derivatizing reagents in one day, and fatty acid composition of the total lipid fraction could be determined by gas-liquid chromatography the next day. The procedure, as demonstrated for pecan, should be suitable for other oilseeds, especially those containing low amounts of water.

TL;DR: The reliability of the experimental tie-line data was determined through the Othmer−Tobias plots as mentioned in this paper, which were essential for the product separation and solvent recycling in the process of methanol synthesis under supercritical conditions using hexane as the solvent.
Abstract: Liquid−liquid equilibria for methanol + water + hexane ternary mixtures were measured at (298.15, 308.15, and 318.15) K under atmospheric pressure. The reliability of the experimental tie-line data was determined through the Othmer−Tobias plots. Such data were essential for the product separation and solvent recycling in the process of methanol synthesis under supercritical conditions using hexane as the solvent.

TL;DR: Results showed that the combination of the tandem graphitized carbon and florisil cartridge with the elution solvent of 6mL of ethyl acetate and hexane was the most efficient clean-up procedure for propolis extracts when testing for OCPs.
Abstract: A rapid and reliable method was developed and applied for the simultaneous determination of 17 organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in propolis After extraction with hexane and acetone (1:1, v/v), four sorbents (florisil, silica, graphitized carbon, and tandem graphitized carbon plus florisil) were assayed for the clean-up step The elution solvents hexane and ethyl acetate (1:1, v/v), hexane and dichloromethane (3:7, v/v), and ethyl acetate and hexane (2:8, v/v) were studied The results showed that the combination of the tandem graphitized carbon and florisil cartridge with the elution solvent of 6mL of ethyl acetate and hexane (2:8, v/v), which was capable of eliminating matrix interference and providing colorless eluates, was the most efficient clean-up procedure for propolis extracts when testing for OCPs The analytical technique employed was gas chromatography with electron capture detection (GC–ECD) The correlation coefficients from linear regression for the analyzed concentrations (5∼100 μg/kg) were >09961 The limits of detection (LODs) varied between 08 μg/kg for 4,4′-DDE and 114 μg/kg for endosulfan II, and the limits of quantitation (LOQs) ranged from 26 to 381 μg/kg The average recoveries varied between 626 and 1096% Relative standard deviations (RSD%) ranged from 08 to 94% Sample analysis indicated that 4,4′-DDE was detected more often in propolis than other pesticides, such as β-HCH, δ-HCH and heptachlor
