TL;DR: A bi-objective location model for maximizing both service coverage and quality of coverage in siting digital subscriber line access multiplexers (DSLAMs) is proposed and an application of the developed model highlights important implications for telecommunication policy.
Abstract: Digital subscriber lines (xDSL) belong to a family of technologies that provide the ability to transmit digital data over local telephone (copper) infrastructure. As the second most popular broadband platform in the United States, it is estimated that over twenty-five million xDSL lines are in service, capturing nearly 30 percent of the U.S. broadband market. While the service range of xDSL is somewhat limited, often extending to a maximum of 18,000 feet from a central office (CO), available bandwidth also decays as distance increases from the CO. As a result, there are often marked disparities in the quality of xDSL service within market areas. This article proposes a bi-objective location model for maximizing both service coverage and quality of coverage in siting digital subscriber line access multiplexers (DSLAMs). An application of the developed model highlights important implications for telecommunication policy.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a system for measuring transfer parameters of a digital subscriber line, where the data for measuring the transfer parameter is received and transmitted from a digital subscribers line router.
Abstract: The method involves arranging a digital subscriber line (3) between a switching center (7) i.e. digital subscriber line access multiplexer, of a network operator, and a subscriber connection. Data for measuring a transfer parameter is exchanged between a measuring server (9) and the subscriber connection, where the measuring server is assigned to the switching center. The data for measuring the transfer parameter is received and transmitted from a digital subscriber line router (4). A computer program is transferred to the digital subscriber line modem via online. An independent claim is also included for a system for measuring transfer parameters of a digital subscriber line.

TL;DR: In this paper, a diagnosis device for testing in the home of a user the wiring quality for very high-bit-rate signals carried by a private telephone network (wiring in the user of said network).
Abstract: The present invention relates to a diagnosis device (10) for testing in the home of a user the wiring quality for very-high-bit-rate signals carried by a private telephone network (12) (wiring in the home of the user of said network). Said test device enables network installation and maintenance technicians to immediately confirm, in particular, the quality of the receiving and transmitting connections with regard to the use thereof for the VDSL, the type of fault detected, and the location of the fault in the wiring.
