TL;DR: Holothuria leucospilota has been induced to spawn by combining two methods: water pressure and thermal stimulation and Larvae were fed using unicellular algae and Sargassum extract.
Abstract: Holothuria leucospilota has been induced to spawn by combining two methods: water pressure and thermal stimulation. Larvae were fed using unicellular algae and Sargassum extract. Early juveniles were obtained on day 33. Survival rate was 4.2% to the juvenile stage.

TL;DR: This work investigates the systematics of the genus Holothuria in the Mediterranean Sea and Northeastern Atlantic in the light of a wider molecular phylogenetic hypothesis of Holothuriidae, and provides a time-scale for the family diversification using mitochondrial markers and the molecular clock hypothesis.

TL;DR: The heaviest and largest individuals of H. polii were found into the non-fishery area of Kusadasi, also showing the highest genetic diversity, and similar pattern was detected in H. tubulosa, but only the weight was significantly higher in the protected area.
Abstract: Sea cucumber fisheries are now occurring in most of the tropical areas of the world, having expanded from its origin in the central Indo-Pacific. Due to the overexploitation of these resources and the increasing demand from Asian countries, new target species from Mediterranean Sea and northeastern Atlantic Ocean are being caught. The fishery effects on biometry and genetic structure of two target species (Holothuria polii and H. tubulosa) from Turkey, were assessed. The heaviest and largest individuals of H. polii were found into the non-fishery area of Kusadasi, also showing the highest genetic diversity. Similar pattern was detected in H. tubulosa, but only the weight was significantly higher in the protected area. However, the observed differences on the fishery effects between species, could be explained considering the different percentage of catches (80% for H. polii and 20% for H. tubulosa).

TL;DR: Two species of sea-cucumber were found to contain an unknown saponin component besides the major one identical with holothurin A isolated by Chanley from Actinopyga agassizi, and the newly isolated component was newly isolated and designated holothsurin B.
Abstract: Two species of sea-cucumber were found to contain an unknown saponin component besides the major one identical with holothurin A isolated by Chanley from Actinopyga agassizi. The unknown component was newly isolated and designated holothurin B. It holds D-quinovose, D-xylose, sulfuric acid as the sodium salt, and presumably the same aglycon in common with holothurin A but lacks 3-O-methyl-D-glucose and D-glucose present in the latter.

TL;DR: In decapod crustaceans the solubility of the surface active compounds, the formation of taurine or sulfate on hydrolysis, the precipitation of proteins in acid medium and the chromatographic behaviour are quite comparable to these properties in bile acids or bile alcohols.
Abstract: The digestive fluids of Holothuria tubulosa (Echinoderms), Aplysia limacine (Gastropoda), Aphrodite aculeala (Annelides) and of all the investigated decapod crustaceans (six species) have a low surface tension (between 75 and 50 % of that, of water).By means of the surface active substances they are able to dissolve small amounts of oleic acid and have a strong emulsifying influence on fats. The dissolving power in the crustaceans is about five times lower than that of vertebrates. In Holothuria and Aplysia it is still much lower than in the crustaceans. In the digestive juice of Cephalopoda surface active substances seem to be lacking. In decapod crustaceans the solubility of the surface active compounds, the formation of taurine or sulfate on hydrolysis, the precipitation of proteins in acid medium and the chromatographic behaviour are quite comparable to these properties in bile acids or bile alcohols. For the other systematic groups treated here, these points could not yet be elucidated. Becaus...
