TL;DR: This contribution provides an illustrated and annotated overview of the poorly known, highly biodiverse, sublittoral and bathyal sea cucumber fauna of the northern Mozambique Channel and stress the urgent need for more explorations to such regions.
Abstract: The 2009 expedition with the research vessel Miriky sampled the sublittoral and bathyal waters of the northern Mozambique Channel. This exploration campaign resulted in a small, but very diverse collection of holothuroids comprising 174 specimens representing 31 species, 18 genera, 10 families and 5 orders. Of these species, many were hitherto unknown for Madagascar or even for the Indian Ocean, and six, Bathyplotes aymeric sp. nov., Holothuria (Cystipus) yann sp. nov., Holothuria (Stauropora) bo sp. nov., Holothuria (Metriatyla) alex sp. nov., Holothuria (Theelothuria) cyrielle sp.nov., Molpadia thandari sp. nov., are new to science. Molpadia lenticulum (Cherbonnier & Feral, 1981) is a new combination. This contribution provides an illustrated and annotated overview of the poorly known, highly biodiverse, sublittoral and bathyal sea cucumber fauna of the northern Mozambique Channel. Our findings demonstrate how ignorant we are about the poorly explored habitats of our planet and therefore stress the urgent need for more explorations to such regions.

TL;DR: In this paper, a study has been conducted to identify the species present around Hengam Island in the Persian Gulf, using morphological keys and review of their ossicles.
Abstract: Although sea cucumber is commercially important, its biology, ecology and dynamic of population have not been known yet in the Persian Gulf. With this respect, this study has been conducted to identify the species present around Hengam Island in the Persian Gulf. Six species of sea cucumber (four species belonging to the genus Holothuria and another two species belonging to the genus Stichopus) were collected on the sub-tidal zone of Hengam Island (Persian Gulf) via SCUBA diving at depths of 5–15 m in March–July 2012. The species identification was made using morphological keys and review of their ossicles.

TL;DR: The results obtained indicate that the perivisceral fluid plays a significant part in the translocation and transportation of dissolved organic materials, and it is presumed that tissues in H. scabra selectively absorb sugars depending on their metabolic activity.
Abstract: Experiments using 14C sugars were carried out on the holothurian Holothuria scabraJager, in order to assess the role of its perivisceral fluid in the translocation and transportation of dissolved organic materials. The results obtained indicate that the perivisceral fluid plays a significant part. Rates of 14C glucose, fructose and sucrose uptake were followed in major tissues such as the alimentary canal, haemal system, respiratory tree and body wall. The monosaccharides are absorbed more intensively by digestive and haemal systems, the disaccharide by respiratory tree and body wall. It is, therefore, presumed that tissues in H. scabra selectively absorb sugars depending on their metabolic activity.
