A Study on Fatty Acid Profile and Some Major Mineral Contents of Sea Cucumber (Holothuria (platyperona) sanctori) from Mediterranean Sea (Turkey)

Abstract: This study was carried out to detect the concentration of fatty acid and some major minerals (P, Mg, Na, Ca) in sea cucumber ( Holothuria (platyperona) sanctori ) obtained from Mediterranean sea (Turkey). In fatty acid composition, the monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) fraction was dominant (14.85%) followed by polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFAs, 9.53%) and saturated fatty acids (SFAs, 9.04%). The order of avarega macro minerals concentrations found in samples was Ca>Na>Mg>P. End of the study, the results showed that Holothuria (platyperona) sanctori ) obtained from Mediterranean sea (Turkey) has a low amount of major mineral and fatty acid content when compared with other economical sea cucumber species. However, PUFA/SFA and n3/n6 ratios were found ( 1.05 and 1.87) in good range. Keywords: Fatty acids, minerals, sea cucumber, Holothuria (platyperona) sanctori , Mediterranean sea

Holothuria (Semperothuria) surinamensis Ludwig, 1875 (Echinodermata: Holothuroidea): Record of the species for the northeast coast of Brazil

Abstract: Holothuria (Semperothuria) surinamensis Ludwig, 1875 (Holothuroidea: Holothuriidae) was recorded for the first time in northeastern Brazil, from reefs at Ponta Verde, Maceio Municipality, state of Alagoas, Brazil. The identified specimens are deposited in the Echinoderm Collection, Invertebrate Collection Paulo Young, Federal University of Paraiba.

An investigation on pathogenic micro - organisms of paracentrotus lividus and holothuria polii (echinodermata) mediterranean sea egypt.

Abstract: icrobiological studies of two echinoderms, the Sea Urchin, Paracentrotus lividus and the Sea cucumber, Holothuria polii from Abu-Qir region of Alexandria Mediterranean coast, were conducted during July 2005. The isolates revealed Gram-positive bacteria from the gonads of the sea urchin and two types of pathogenic fungi from its digestive tract. On the other hand, no isolates were detected from the sea cucumber. The effect of the isolated microorganisms was discussed.
