Abstract: A thermally sprayed coating is deposited onto a cylindrical internal surface of a base member after a rough surface has been formed on the cylindrical internal surface. The tapered surface is configured such that the internal diameter of the axial end portion is larger than the internal diameter of the remaining portions of the cylinder bore internal surface. After the tapered surface is formed, the thermally sprayed coating is honed. This method prevents exfoliation of a thermally sprayed coating at an end portion of a cylindrical internal surface in a situation where honing or another mechanical finishing process is applied to the thermally sprayed coating after the coating is formed on the cylindrical internal surface.

Abstract: Hardide™ is a family of new low-temperature Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) Tungsten/Tungsten Carbide coatings. Coating consists of Tungsten Carbide nano-particles dispersed in metal Tungsten matrix, that give the material enhanced hardness of between 1100 Hv and 1800 Hv, and abrasion resistance up to 12 times better than Hard Chrome. Nano-structured materials show unique toughness, crack and impact-resistance. The coating is resistant to acids and aggressive media, can be produced on steel, including stainless steel and some tool steels, with coating thickness varied from 5 microns to 100 microns. Gas-phase CVD process allows coating internal surfaces and items of complex shape like dies, moulds, pump cylinders. Homogeneous pore-free structure facilitates finishing by honing, polishing, mirror finish can be achieved with suitable substrate. Use of Hardide with cutting tools for paper and plastics makes them self-sharpening. Application of Hardide increases life of tools and critical components and reduces down-time.

Abstract: A blade sharpening device is provided for honing a cutting edge of a blade. The device includes a block with a top honing surface, and a jig assembly mounted on the block. The jig assembly holds a blade in a fixed position adjacent the honing surface, and directed towards the honing surface, so that a sharpening stone can be manually moved on the top honing surface and across the blade edge for sharpening. The stone can be moved longitudinally, laterally, and circularly. The jig assembly is pivotally mounted on the block for a desired sharpening angle, and vertically adjustable so that the blade edge is substantially flush with the top honing surface of the block.

Abstract: The method involves forming a non-cylindrical drilling surface (NZF) by radially pushing machine hones in a form hone tool into a drilling surface of a borehole formed in a work piece. The cylindrical fine boring or position honing are performed on the non-cylindrical drilling surface by form hone or form hones with two machine hones, which are controllable and adjustable independent of each other. The non-cylindrical drilling surface is uniformly smoothened by equally removing the material with constant pressure using machine hones. An independent claim is also included for a form hone tool comprising machine hones.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a long service life (wear resistance) and stable high cutting property of a grinding wheel used for precise cutting such as honing and superfinishing and polishing, and to provide a metal bonded grinding wheel having the long service life and stable high cutting property by discharging fine cut chips without generating clogging, even if using water-soluble oil excellent in cooling property, in particular. SOLUTION: This super abrasive grain metal bonded grinding wheel is made by dispersing soft abrasive grains including super abrasive grains and barium sulfate in sintering metal bonding containing metal particles and glass particles and integrating the sintering metal bonding and the soft abrasive grains by sintering. When the glass components of the sintering metal bonding are destroyed to generate a chip pocket, discharging performance is enhanced by a flow of the destroyed particle pieces by blending barium sulfate, and thereby there is an action to quickly and more surely form the chip pocket. Abstract: The utility model discloses digital-control outer circle honing machine. The honing machine includes an under bed, a head box at the left of the bed, a tailstock at the right of the bed, and a carriage, a honing head, a feeding box, a central frame and an operation platform arranged in turn in the middle. A main motor is arranged in the left back of the bed, a hydraulic platform is arranged in the right back, and a cooling box is in the central back. The honing head is arranged on the carriage through the brackets at both ends, and a honing head shaft is arranged above the brackets. The honing head comprises an upper part and a lower part, and the upper part is connected with the lower part through a fastening bolt in the left end and a pin shaft in the right. Oil cylinders are evenly distributed on the upper part and the lower part of the honing head, springs are evenly distributed on inner side of the oil cylinders, and honing bars are most inside. A piston rod and two pins are arranged inside the oil cylinder. The utility model is featured with uniform force on workpiece, no bending or deformation, and high machining efficiency.

Abstract: A process for grinding workpieces is obtained which includes attaching honing stones to a tool, each of the honing stones including grinding particles and an electroconductive connection for fixing the grinding particles to each other; grinding the workpieces with the honing stones by applying a honing liquid having substantially no electroconductive property to a region between the workpiece and the honing stones, the workpieces being successively ground during a series of processing periods, while interposing non-processing periods between the processing periods, each of the workpieces being ground in one of the processing periods; and performing an electrolytic dressing with respect to the honing stones by using an electrode provided to face the honing stones with a space therebetween, a voltage being applied between the honing stones and an electrode in the presence of an electroconductive liquid in the space between the honing stones and the electrode, the electrolytic dressing being carried out during the non-processing periods.

Abstract: As a special kind of grinding, honing is a typical low speed precision machining process, which is of low grinding speed, little grinding heat and little thermal-residual deformation of workpiece, suitable for precision machining of holes in the precision couples of internal-combustion engine. Experimental investigation on effects of process parameters on honing efficiency of small holes was put forward in this paper to obtain economical machining efficiency. Circumferential speed, reciprocate speed and working pressure of honing stone are the key factors which affect the machining efficiency and quality of honing. Taking it as a case study the honing of the small middle hole of the valve seat of balancing valve couples of internal combustion engines, honing experiments were carried out in this paper to investigate the relationships of material removing rate in rough honing versus circumferential speed, reciprocate speed and working pressure in honing of small holes. The results show that in honing of small holes the material removal rate in rough honing increases with circumferential speed, reciprocate speed and reticulate cross-angle increasing but decreases when the two speeds exceed certain critical values, and the surface quality in finishing honing is improved by increasing circumferential speed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for machining a sprayed coating forming the sprayed coating excellent in machinability with high shape precision after honing. SOLUTION: In this method, the film W3 formed in a bore C1 surface is machined by dry machining. A cutting tool is rotated at a rotational speed of 400-800 m/min when the cutting tool with a cutting tip containing 60-80 wt.% CBN (cubic boron nitride) is used, and rotated at the speed of 400-900 m/min when the tool with the tip containing 80-90 wt.% CBN (cubic boron nitride) is used. The method comprises: a first step for performing boring to a part of a predetermined machining amount of the sprayed coating W3 while moving the tool by a prescribed feeding rate in the bore; and a second step for performing honing to the remaining part of the predetermined machining amount thereof by using a grinding tool with a grinding wheel. Abstract: Laser Surface Texturing (LST) is an advanced method of surface micro-texturing technology. The aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of micro-patterned laser texturing surfaces on hydrodynamic lubrication. Numerical model of 3D micro-patterned laser texturing surfaces is set up based on Reynolds equation. By Full Multi-Grid (FMG) V Cycle Algorithm, matrix pattern and interfering pattern are investigated on several pattern parameters. It is shown that the lubrication performance is influenced by the type and parameter of the micro-pattern. Result indicates that the ability of interfering pattern on pressure built-up is better than the matrix pattern. It is clearly shown that the interfering ratio of interfering pattern also influences the lubricating performance and the optimal value of interfering ratio is around 0.4. Finally, geometry parameters of laser texturing micro-pore are also studied under patterned surface. Compared with previous literature in single micro-pore cell analysis, result shows that it is essential to investigate the geometry parameters of micro-pores in patterned surface. Numerical result of investigation has been applied in laser surface honing of cylinder-piston system successfully.

The utility model is characterized in that the two sides of the main frame are fixed with a non-rod cylinder which drives the honing to move; the permanent magnetic positioning clamp used for positioning and clamping the moveable steel plate is arranged on the bottom surface of the lower transverse beam of the truss; the laser head is assembled on the transverse guideway of the honing supporting frame; the end of the piston rod of the lifting cylinder which is articulated on the honing supporting frame is connected with the vertical guide column which is connected with the sliding block; the vertical guide frame of the drive truss of the lifting cylinder moves to-and-fro in-phrase along the guide column. The utility model solves the problem of that the continuous positioning and cutting can not be implemented in the transmission process in the prior art. The utility model adopts the permanent magnetic positioning clamping device which clamps and disconnects the steel plate freely to make the transmission structure is more reasonably designed; the steel plate is continuously cut and fast exactly positioned during the transmission process; comparing with the electromagnetic transmission, the utility model is automatically controlled, has a simple operation, effectively eliminates the effect of the electromagnetic field on the electric control device, and obviously improves the cutting quality and the work efficiency of the laser head.

Through alternating direction rotation honing cylinder jacket platform cob webbing, it can expose the graphite sufficiently, timely release lubrication oil to the friction system. This technique has acquired international standard parameter, allowing the inner wall of the cylinder jacket acquiring small platform and deep slot, increase bearing area of the small platform, with the deep slot storing oil better, improving sealing capacity, reducing oil consumption, allowing the engine tail gas emission reaching Euro III standard for the benefit of environment protection and health of mankind.

Abstract: The diesel engine cylinder was processed by laser honing (LH) device, the structure morphology was observed with scanning electric mirror (SEM), and lubricant consumes and wear performances were measured, at the same time the mechanism of LH and effects of laser parameters on LH results were analyzed. The experimental results are shown that LH is a kind of phase transformation treatment by laser, which processes a hardening belt in the certain distributing form on the work-piece surface, and forms the hardness distribution of soft and hard material alternatively; LH may lower the engine oil consumes 30%-60%, and reduce the pollution of the catalyst machine, and lower the grain let of the engine oil 25%-30%. LH intentionally machines the grain cave, which has the certain angle, depth, and width etc.. The surface microcosmic sculpting has the lubricating function for usage process, and storage and transport lubricant, which improves the rubbing condition, then lower the part wear and increase the other performances. The short-wave laser is more applicable to the LH process, which improves the lubrication condition, and increases the service life of the engine and the efficiency, and lowers the engine oil consumes.

The present method makes all required bore measurements, including those in both the workpiece bore and the calibration ring or sample workpiece bore, with the honing tool, under controlled static, non-honing conditions, including expanding the tool in the bores in a predetermined manner, such as at a predetermined rate. The method of the invention has utility for honing multiple workpieces to a finished size with a single tool, and also for multiple spindle applications.

Abstract: Recently, wet blasting is generally used such as liquid honing and water jet machining in surface before plating of stainless steel. The outstanding feature of wet blasting is to prevent generation of static electric charge, to use micro abrasive grain, and to have cushioning for workpiece. On the other hand, the disadvantage of wet blasting is to generate corrosion of equipment and liquid waste under processing. Moreover, the using abrasive grain is available on a limited basis. In particular, improvement disposal of liquid waste under processing is crucial in the near future. This paper makes proposal for improvement of surface texture by utilizing dry blasting, and it conducts improvement of surface texture about martensite stainless steel (SUS420J2 In JIS), which is used in material for scale. In the previous report, it has been cleared that relationship between surface texture and wettability. In this report, adhesion of plating was measured by scratch test. As a result, it was cleared that availability of adhesion evaluation by utilizing wettability.

Abstract: The laser honing technique is a new surface texturing technique. As the piston ring at the top or lower oil attachment point works under worse lubrication condition, its wear increases severely, laser texturing was used to the piston ring/liner, lineary extending grooves and regular arranged dimples with predetermined parameters was well-matched with the needs of lubrication. The effects of different dimple shapes, such as sphere coronal, combined sphere coronal ,columnar, hexahedral, and trapezoidal dimples was analyzed by the theory of hydrodynamic lubrication. It was deduced that trapezoidal dimples are fit for only single running orientation and sphere coronal and combined sphere coronal dimples are fit for double running orientations. The experimental researches show that laser texturing not only can reduce the oil consumption and the cost of engine but also can prolong its work life.

The honing tool performs the honing operation by simultaneous rotational and reciprocating motion of the honing tool and after that the honing tool is moved in the axial direction. Abstract: This paper introduces the new technology of ultrasonic vibration honing, and analyzes the cutting principle of ultrasonic honing in terms of cutting motion, grain performance and cutting quantity. Then, the applied effect used in the cast-iron cylinder of DY90 is introduced. The principle and the structure of this device are discussed. This new technology can further be used in micro-car’s cylinder, can provides a high-productivity, high-quality for cast-iron cylinder.
