Abstract: An injection molded disposable honing tool is made by an injection molding process. The tool has an elongated rectangular base from which projects an elongated section which may be somewhat smaller. The elongated section terminates in a working face. The entire tool may incorporate abrasive therein homogeneously or simply the elongated section which terminates in the working face. A shot of a plastic melt such as nylon is formed with abrasive mixed homogeneously which is then injected into a mold. For higher cost abrasive, a two shot process may be used with one shot being abrasive free. Alternatively, an abrasive-free insert may be placed in the mold before the abrasive mix is injected. The surface of the working face may be formed to act as a working face of closely packed fingers by placing patterns in the mold surface forming the working face, or subsequently cutting the working face, or a combination of both.

TL;DR: In this paper, a radial vibration ultrasound honing device is proposed to ensure that an oilstone edge performs radial vibration along a processed hole. But the device is not suitable for machining of holes of different shapes.
Abstract: The invention discloses a radial vibration ultrasound honing device, belongs to the technical field of ultrasound honing and provides a radial vibration ultrasound honing device for ensuring that an oilstone edge performs radial vibration along a processed hole. In order to solve the technical problem, the technical scheme adopted by the invention is as follows: a main shaft is a hollow stepped shaft with a thicker middle and two thinner ends; a post rod, a transducer, an amplitude transformer and an expanded core shaft are all positioned in the main shaft, and the transducer is provided with an axial through hole; the post rod is positioned in the through hole, the bottom of the transducer and the top of the amplitude transformer are fixed together, and the amplitude transformer is provided with a flange; the bottom of the flange and one of a spring are fixed, the other end of the spring is fixed on a step of the interior hole of the main shaft, and the lower end of the amplitude transformer is connected with the upper end of the expanded core shaft through a thread; and multiple oilstone bases are arranged on a slotted hole through a top foot, and each oilstone base is fixedly provided with an oilstone. The radial vibration ultrasound honing device provided by the invention can be widely used for finishing or finish machining of holes of different shapes.

TL;DR: In this article, a flexibly mounted honing stone is used to seat itself on the flat surface of the workpiece to be treated. Butler et al. present an apparatus that can also be moved in a direction which is substantially orthogonal to the two axes.
Abstract: An apparatus (10) for honing workpieces such as the midspans (108) of jet aircraft engine blades (12) is provided. The apparatus includes a flexibly mounted honing stone (24) which will seat itself on the flat surface of the workpiece to be treated. To provide the necessary flexibility, the honing stone is mounted to a support (20) in such a manner that it is pivotable about at least two axes. It may also be moved in a direction which is substantially orthogonal to the two axes. This latter feature allows the stone to move downwardly as the surface of the work piece is honed. It also allows the honing stone to be moved entirely off the work piece and into a storage position. The apparatus further includes a support (14,16,18) which is specifically designed for holding an aircraft blade in a position such that the wear surfaces of the midspans of such blades are in a substantially horizontal plane. Two clamping assemblies are provided for clamping the root (16) and one of the midspans of a blade (18).

TL;DR: In this paper, an apparatus for holding workpieces, such as gears and the like, the bore of which is to be machined by a tool, especially a honing tool, is described.
Abstract: An apparatus for holding of workpieces, such as gears and the like, the bore of which is to be machined by a tool, especially a honing tool. At least one workpiece is held on a workpiece carrier which is mounted in a floating manner transverse to the tool axis on a base plate. The workpiece carrier is secured against rotation by an arresting device. The arresting device cooperates with a force-absorbing part or disc which is arranged so as to be movable relative to the base plate and the workpiece carrier, and so as to be non-rotatable relative to the base plate by means of a holder in such a manner that the force acting on the arresting device from the workpiece carrier is absorbed by the holder.

TL;DR: In this article, the longitudinal tooth flank crowning of a helical gear was investigated by setting a crossed angle between the Honing cutter and work gear axes as a linear function of the cutter's traverse feed in the honing process.
Abstract: The gear honing is the most economical way for hard finishing an involute helical gear after hobbing and heat treatment or after shaving and heat treatment. The gear honing can also be applied to the modification of gear tooth surfaces to compensate for the distortions that occur during heat treatment process. Most published papers on the technology of gear honing describes on the principle of generated gear surface. However, the longitudinal tooth flank crowning of a helical gear with honing has not been investigated yet. Therefore, in this paper, we proposed a novel method for longitudinal tooth flank crowning of work gear surfaces by setting a crossed angle between the honing cutter and work gear axes as a linear function of honing cutter's traverse feed in the honing process. A mathematical model for the tooth profile of work gear honed by a standard honing cutter is also established. Three numeral examples are presented to illustrate and verify the merits of the proposed gear honing method in longitudinal crowning.
