TL;DR: In this paper, a method for passing a workpiece through a hone tool having a plurality of abrasive surfaces configured to remove a portion of all exterior machining surfaces of the workpiece as it was passed through the hone tool was presented.
Abstract: A method for honing a workpiece by passing a workpiece through a hone tool having a plurality of abrasive surfaces configured to remove a portion of all exterior machining surfaces of the workpiece as it is passed through the hone tool, the exterior machining surfaces being non-uniform and wherein the hone tool is configured to hone all of the exterior machining surfaces simultaneously as workpiece is passed through the hone tool. An assembly for honing a workpiece, the assembly having a plurality of hone tools each having abrasive surfaces configured to remove a portion of exterior non-uniform surfaces of a workpiece pushed through the hone tool, wherein the hone tool is configured to surround the entire periphery of the workpiece being passed therethrough.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors take radial ultrasonic vibration vibration honing as an example to explore the dynamic changes of grinding force in ultrasonic honing process, and obtain the following conclusions: (1) the friction coefficient between work-piece and whetstone is a nonlinear time variable; (2) adding radial vibrational vibration is mainly to change the positive pressure between whetstones and workpiece, thereby affecting the mutual friction between workpiece and oilstone in honing; (3) whether ordinary honing or ultrasonic, friction dynamic changes along with time, performance
Abstract: Grinding chatter is a hazardous phenomenon that frequently occurred during grinding process. The topic takes radial ultrasonic vibration honing as an example to explore the dynamic changes of grinding force in ultrasonic honing process. By analyzing obtains the following conclusions: (1) The friction coefficient between work-piece and whetstone is a nonlinear time variable; (2) Adding radial ultrasonic is mainly to change the positive pressure between whetstone and work-piece, thereby affects the mutual friction between work-piece and oilstone in honing; (3) Whether ordinary honing or ultrasonic honing, friction dynamic changes along with time, performance of whetstone relative to work-piece is discontinuous sliding —jerking motion.

TL;DR: A replacement cylinder for the remanufacture of cast iron engine blocks includes a sleeve formed of cast-iron and having a relatively thin wall, a selected length, an outer diameter to achieve a slight clearance of fit within an overbored cylinder, an inner diameter equal to the original specifications of the original manufacturer of the engine block, and a helical cross hatched inner surface finish.
Abstract: A replacement cylinder for the remanufacture of cast iron engine blocks includes a sleeve formed of cast iron and having a relatively thin wall, a selected length, an outer diameter to achieve a slight clearance of fit within an overbored cylinder, an inner diameter equal to the original specifications of the original manufacturer of the engine block, and a helical cross hatched inner surface finish. The replacement cylinders are manufactured by placing an unfinished sleeve in a boring fixture, boring the inner surface to a selected diameter, transferring the bored sleeve to a honing fixture, and honing the inner surface to the required diameter and surface finish. An adhesive is applied to the prefinished replacement cylinders and the overbored block cylinders, and the replacement cylinders are inserted into the overbored cylinders wherein the adhesive is allowed to cure to thereby adhesively retain the replacement cylinders within the block.

TL;DR: In this paper, a set of expandable abrasive-coated frustro-conical sleeves are mounted on rotating shafts, one for each cylindrical bore, which circumferentially surround, and are supported by, a rotating inner supporting member.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for honing cylindrical bores adjacent to a larger cavity or bore is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a set of expandable abrasive-coated frustro-conical sleeves mounted on rotating shafts, one for each cylindrical bore, which circumferentially surround, and are supported by, a rotating inner supporting member. The sleeves and supporting member are moved through the bore and larger cavity in a direction along their axis of rotation, and in so doing, the sleeves contact the bore walls to impart a honing action. A means for precisely adjusting the final honing diameter of the sleeves is provided, as well as means for adjusting the distance of the sleeves from the center of the larger cavity. By adjusting the sleeves at successively closer positions to a desired final bore, the bore can be honed with great accuracy.
