TL;DR: In this paper, a disk-shaped hone stop assembly for reconditioning the cylinder bores of an internal combustion engine block is presented, which includes adjustable connections from the hone stop to the frame to allow the stop to be selectively positioned adjacent to an end of a cylinder bore.
Abstract: A hone stop assembly for use with a honing tool in reconditioning the cylinder bores of an internal combustion engine block. The assembly includes a frame mountable to an engine block, a disk-shaped hone stop, and suitable adjustable connections from the hone stop to the frame to allow the stop to be selectively positioned adjacent to an end of a cylinder bore. A honing tool inserted from the other end of the cylinder bore will contact the hone stop rather than any engine castings adjacent to the end of the cylinder, preventing damage to the honing stones and facilitating accurate reconditioning of the cylinder walls while reducing the tendency of the mechanic to taper the cylinder walls.

TL;DR: In this article, a polygonal flat plate shape in a plan view is used to attach an insert attached to a tip replacement type rotary cutting tool for a milling cutter, which reduces cutting resistance while keeping the chipping resistance of the main cutting edge and achieves highly efficient high feed cutting.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insert attached to a tip replacement type rotary cutting tool for a milling cutter, which reduces cutting resistance while keeping the chipping resistance of the main cutting edge, and achieves highly efficient high-feed cutting. SOLUTION: The insert can be attached/detached to/from a rotary tool body, and has a polygonal flat plate shape in a plan view. In the insert, a negative honing and a land are provided on the rake face of the main cutting edge, and an R-shaped corner blade is formed at a corner portion. When the insert is attached to the rotary tool body, the main cutting edge of the insert defines the lowermost point in the rotation axis direction of the rotary tool body, and the width of the negative honing or the width between the negative honing and the land is formed so as to gradually increase from the lowermost point toward the outer peripheral side direction with respect to the rotation axis direction of the rotary tool body. TL;DR: In this paper, a measuring unit mounted on the honing meachine measures the bores in the workpieces before these come under the tool and feeds the measured values to the control arrangement which adjusts the dia. of the tool for each workpiece.
Abstract: Workpieces (11) move step by step through the honing machine. The bores (13) of the workpieces are finished by a honing tool (14). The honing stones (16) on the tool can be spread by a mechanism which is drive by an electric motor or electro-hydraulically. The spreading mechanism can vary the dia. of the honing tool by initial fast continuous adjustment followed by slow step by step adjustment. A measuring unit (19) mounted on the honing meachine measures the bores in the workpieces before these come under the honing tool. The unit incorporates a spindle (20) which can be fed into the bore in the workpiece. The spindle measures the bore in the workpiece either by peeumatic, electronic or mechanical means. If the bore is conical it will measure the smallest dia. The measuring unit feeds the measured values to the control arrangement which adjusts the dia. of the honing tool for each workpiece.

TL;DR: In this article, a base metal, such as the aluminum or iron housing of a conventional rotary or reciprocating-piston internal combustion engine, and a sealing member applicable to the pistons or rotor thereof are coated with a layer of a wear-resistant alloy, either by evaporating the elements of the alloy by electron guns onto the surfaces to be coated or by vaporizing a wire of the same alloy in a vacuum chamber by the application of a high-tension electrical discharge through the wire from an electrical condenser bank.
Abstract: A base metal, such as the aluminum or iron housing of a conventional rotary or reciprocating-piston internal combustion engine, and a sealing member applicable to the pistons or rotor thereof are coated with a layer of a wear-resistant alloy, such as molybdenum-ruthenium or tungsten-ruthenium alloy, either by evaporating the elements of the alloy by electron guns onto the surfaces to be coated or by vaporizing a wire of the same alloy in a vacuum chamber by the application of a high-tension electrical discharge through the wire from an electrical condenser bank. Depositing the alloy is done on a production basis by passing workpiece holders in a circular path through a vacuum chamber beneath the electron gun, followed by a realloying step through a laser beam, an acid dip, a rinsing dip, a drying by heat, and a final honing.
