TL;DR: In this paper, a tool mandrel is attached to a machine for rotating machining operations, and a rigid member is secured to the mandrel and configured such that the effective diameter of the substantially rigid abrasive outer surface of the honing member can be uniformly and precisely varied in a radial direction relative to the longitudinal axis of the tool in response to pressure on the interior surface.
Abstract: An improved honing method and device connected to a source of pressurized fluid for machining a wall of a bore hole or similar interior of a workpiece. The honing device includes a tool mandrel connected in a cantilevered arrangement to a machine for rotating machining operations. A rigid honing member is secured to the tool mandrel, and configured such that the effective diameter of the substantially rigid abrasive outer surface of the honing member can be uniformly and precisely varied in a radial direction relative to the longitudinal axis of the tool in response to pressure on the interior surface of the honing member. A fluid distribution system formed in the tool mandrel in a predetermined arrangement is in fluid communication with the source of pressurized fluid, and includes a pressure chamber that is configured to apply fluid pressure to the interior surface of the honing member. At least one passage extends through the honing member from the pressure chamber and has an opening on the exterior surface of the honing member for delivering fluid to dissipate heat energy and remove debris.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of magnetic field has been investigated on specimens mounted in a holder and subjected to magneto-rheological abrasive honing (MRAH), and the results obtained on the non-magnetic specimens by this approach for different magnetic field and process duration confirm that the finishing capability of the process is greatly improved, and yields a maximum improvement in finish of 41.7% and 43.5%, respectively.

TL;DR: In this paper, a thermally sprayed coating is applied to a cylindrical internal surface of a base member after a rough surface has been formed on the cylinder internal surface, and the tapered surface is configured such that the internal diameter of the axial end portion is larger than the remaining portions of the cylinder bore internal surface.
Abstract: A thermally sprayed coating is deposited onto a cylindrical internal surface of a base member after a rough surface has been formed on the cylindrical internal surface. The tapered surface is configured such that the internal diameter of the axial end portion is larger than the internal diameter of the remaining portions of the cylinder bore internal surface. After the tapered surface is formed, the thermally sprayed coating is honed. This method prevents exfoliation of a thermally sprayed coating at an end portion of a cylindrical internal surface in a situation where honing or another mechanical finishing process is applied to the thermally sprayed coating after the coating is formed on the cylindrical internal surface.

TL;DR: In this article, a new magnetorheological honing (MRH) process has been developed for internal surface finishing of cylindrical workpieces with different diameters, which makes use of the tool with radial polarized curved permanent magnet strips and a MAG polishing fluid.
