TL;DR: In this paper, an elastomer is injected into the mold to infuse and encapsulate the bundle, filling the interstices of the bundle and forming an integument around the bundle in effect making the tip action tool into a solid yet elastic block.
Abstract: Honing tools and methods of making such tools utilize a compact bundle of abrasive containing plastic monofilaments projection a relatively short distance from a holder with the compacted tips forming the working face of the tool. The bundle may be secured to the holder by a thin layer of adhesive or by a clinched or swaged girdling lip or rim on the holder which embraces the bundle. In addition, the bundle is further infused with an elastomer, preferably foamed. The bundle is enclosed in a mold which may be part of the clinching process and an elastomer is injected into the mold to infuse and encapsulate the bundle. The encapsulation fills the interstices of the bundle and form an integument around the bundle in effect making the tip action tool into a solid yet elastic block. This enables the abrasive monofilaments to have a higher abrasive loading since they are additionally supported by the matrix, and the tool to be applied at higher pressures. The matrix may be injected through the working face, the bottom of the holder or through mechanical anchor holes in the sides of the holder.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a milling cutter for adhesive materials having an improved tool life and achieving high precision surface roughness by preventing progress of wear and hardly allowing fusion and adhesion to occur. SOLUTION: In the milling cutter 1 for adhesive materials which has a hard coating layer 3 on a base material 2, the base material 2 is composed of a bond phase including one or more iron group metals, and a hard phase including one or more compounds selected from the groups consisting of carbide, nitride and oxide of elements of groups IVa, Va, VIa in the periodic table, Al and Si, and their solid solutions, and a cutting edge ridge 4 is provided with a chamber honing part of which the outermost layer is partially different from a hard coating layer 3. The outermost layer in the central part 4a of the chamfer honing part is a titanium compound layer or a zirconium compound layer, and the outermost layer in a first region 7a including a rake face side boundary region 7 and a second region 8a including a flank side boundary region 8 is an aluminum oxide layer.

TL;DR: In this paper, the first and second sections of a bore are sequentially arranged in an axial direction of the bore, where the first section is hardened and the second and third sections have different hardness.
Abstract: In a method for honing a bore having first and second sections sequentially arranged in an axial direction of the bore, wherein the first section is hardened so that the first and second sections have different hardness, a honing tool is radially supported by positioning guides of the honing tool on the second bore section first section is machined with honing stones arranged on the honing tool to remove material from the first section. During machining of the first section, the honing tool is expanded by feeding the honing stones according to a defined feeding mode against a surface of the first section by a force-guided electro-mechanical advancement. During machining of the first section, the working stroke of the honing tool is adjusted continuously at least toward the end of the honing process. Feeding of the guides is realized independently of feeding of the honing stones.
