TL;DR: The laser finishing could not only protrude the silicon particle but also make its edge rounded and smooth, which decreased the stress concentration, therefore, the Al–Si alloy cylinder liner treated with laser finishing had the best anti-wear performance.
Abstract: To enhance the anti-wear property of aluminum-silicon (Al-Si) alloy, three processing technologies-chemical etching, mechanical honing and laser finishing-were compared in terms of their effects on anti-wear performance. The treated Al-Si alloy cylinder liner samples were worn against a piston ring by a reciprocating sliding tribotester; the anti-wear performance was represented by the friction coefficient and wear loss; and the wear mechanism was determined by establishing stress contact models. The results showed that the best time for both the chemical etching and mechanical honing treatments was 2 min, and the optimal laser power was 1000 W for the laser finishing treatment. The three processing technologies could all remove the aluminum layer and make the silicon protrude on the surface to avoid the plastic flow of aluminum during the friction process. The laser finishing could not only protrude the silicon particle but also make its edge rounded and smooth, which decreased the stress concentration. Therefore, the Al-Si alloy cylinder liner treated with laser finishing had the best anti-wear performance.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for modifying the reciprocating cycle of a honing tool during a machining operation is described. But this method is not suitable for machining a tool within a cylinder to be machined.
Abstract: 3 Claims. (C My invention relates to honing machines and methods and particularly to a device and method for modifying the reciprocating cycle of a honing tool during a honing operatio n. It has been the" practice in the art to reclpro- c cate the honing tool within a cylinder to be machined...

TL;DR: In this paper, a dressing wheel with a helix angle differing from that of the gear workpiece was used for fine machining of gear workpieces, an axis intersection angle different from that for fine-machining gear work pieces being set for dressing in order to obtain the assigned helix angles of the tool.
Abstract: A process for dressing a tool, a honing tool in particular, introduced into a machine for fine machining of the tooth profiles of gear workpieces, with a dressing wheel which is engaged with the tool to be dressed in place of a gear workpiece and is caused to rotate. To achieve optimum cutting conditions the use is provided of a dressing wheel with a helix angle differing from that of the gear workpiece, an axis intersection angle different from that for fine machining of gear workpieces being set for dressing in order to obtain the assigned helix angle of the tool.

TL;DR: In this article, the cutting mechanism in the honing operation is analyzed theoretically, assuming that one stick corresponds to a single point tool with a long cutting edge, and an evaluating function to present the overall severity of honing conditions and an equation to calculate the specific cutting force are derived.
Abstract: The cutting mechanism in the honing operation is analyzed theoretically, assuming that one stick corresponds to a single point tool with a long cutting edge. As a result, an evaluating function to present the overall severity of honing conditions and an equation to calculate the specific cutting force are derived. Moreover, some experiments are carried out to confirm the propriety of these results.

TL;DR: In this article, a closed-loop system combining the advantages of chemical-free advanced decontamination technology, long-life wiper-free UV disinfections, and maintenance-free ceramic MF/UF membranes to provide multi- barrier protection is presented.
Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for decontaminating a contaminated fluid that integrate ultraviolet radiation in an advanced decontamination process, and a honing material, along with a cross-flow membrane filter, into a single closed-loop system. This approach combines the advantages of chemical-free advanced decontamination technology, long-life wiper-free UV disinfections, and maintenance-free ceramic MF/UF membranes to provide multi- barrier protection. Such technique provides a 100% fluid recovery system (zero reject stream). In one embodiment, the system comprises a filtration membrane and a honing material located in the contaminated fluid that is sufficient to scrub foulants from the membrane, as well as any other components that honing material comes in contact with, while forming a dynamic filtration coating on the membrane as the contaminated fluid pass through the membrane. The system may also comprise an advanced decontamination process sufficient to destroy, by oxidation or reduction, biological and organic contaminants from the contaminated fluid.
