TL;DR: A pilot-scale staged anaerobic fluidized membrane bioreactor (SAF-MBR) was operated continuously for 485 days, without chemical cleaning of membranes, treating primary-settled domestic wastewater with wastewater temperature between 8 and 30°C and total hydraulic retention time between 4.6 and 6.8h.

TL;DR: A review of quality and biological treatment of landfill leachate is presented in this article, where the key determinant of COD removal for waters characterised in terms of BOD/COD ratio and age is discussed.
Abstract: A review of quality and biological treatment of landfill leachate is presented. Conventional ex-situ treatment normally demands multistage process treatment schemes, which may encompass both aerobic and anaerobic technologies alongside chemical precipitation and/or oxidation. This is to be contrasted with the more recent membrane bioreactor technology, which generally demands much reduced pre- and post-treatment and has a much reduced footprint compared with conventional biotreatment. Results are summarised in terms of the key determinant of COD removal for waters characterised in terms of BOD/COD ratio and age. Process operation is characterised with respect to COD strength and loading rate, hydraulic retention time and number of individual unit operations. Copyright © 2004 Society of Chemical Industry

TL;DR: Biodegradation was the main PPCP removal mechanism, being higher removals achieved under aerobic conditions, except in the case of sulfamethoxazole and trimetrophim, and sorption onto sludge was influenced by biomass conformation, being only significant for musk fragrances in the UASB reactor.

TL;DR: The results show that on a continuous basis under the studied conditions and with a loading of up to 0.8 kg VS/m3 d metric ton (wet weight) of the studied waste mixture could yield up to 140 m3 of methane.
