TL;DR: In this article, a method for associating a portion of a stereoscopic image with a perceived depth is described, which is based on determining offset values that each indicate a displacement between image data in a first image of a stereo pair and corresponding images in a second image of the stereoscopic pair.
Abstract: A method for associating a portion of a stereoscopic image with a perceived depth is described. The method includes determining offset values that each indicate a displacement between image data in a first image of a stereoscopic pair and corresponding image data in a second image of the stereoscopic pair. The displacement affects a perceived depth of a point represented by the image data and the corresponding image data. The method also includes identifying image data in the second image that is not associated with a valid offset value, generating a supplementary offset value using valid offset values associated with image data substantially near the image data in the second image, and associating the image data in the second image with the supplementary offset value.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a road image compositing technology for compositing an accurate road image even when there is a change in inclination, direction, or speed of a traveling vehicle, and in road gradient.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a road image compositing technology for compositing an accurate road image even when there is a change in inclination, direction, or speed of a traveling vehicle, and in road gradient. SOLUTION: In a road image creation system, the road image of the road ahead imaged from the traveling vehicle is stored in an image storage means 6. Location coordinate data of the vehicle measured in synchronization with the imaging of each road image is stored in a location history storage means 10. An image conversion means 12 creates an orthographic image (orthographic road image) of the road surface by applying orthographic projection conversion to each road image. An image compositing means 13 determines, according to the location coordinate data of each orthographic road image measured by the vehicle location measuring means, the world coordinate and direction of the orthographic road image, and arranges each orthographic road image on a horizontal plane of projection in the determined world coordinate system respectively to composite a linked road image. At this time, corrections according to the location, attitude, and height of the vehicle are applied to the orthographic projection. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT

TL;DR: The overall results show that the developed conversion method reported here can be effectively used to obtain more in-depth and quantitative information out of the raw data for the PLIF experiments.
Abstract: The goal of this paper is to describe essential criteria for image analysis of planar laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF) signals. A new image file conversion method is introduced and some typical illustrative examples showing the potential applications of the method in PLIF experiments are presented. Analysis of row, column, and total pixel counts, and the dark noise related to an image are discussed. Image segmentation, averaging and background correction can be easily done by the reported method. In our analysis it is straightforward to inspect the pixel counts and check for saturation of the camera sensors. It is also feasible to obtain a particular row or column for interpretation and it offers an easy way to check the validity of the captured images. Furthermore, the method offers a sensitive technique to check pulse-to-pulse variation of the excitation laser by using frame-to-frame fluorescence image data comparison, which is more illustrative than power checking by other means. The overall results show that the developed conversion method reported here can be effectively used to obtain more in-depth and quantitative information out of the raw data for the PLIF experiments.

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for converting a region of a Fish-Eye or other wide-angle image into a rectilinear image. According to an illustrative embodiment of the present disclosure, a Fish-Eye to rectilinear image conversion block is defined for use in a block diagram of a diagrammatic programming environment. The Fish-Eye to rectilinear image conversion block may use any of a variety of models for Fish-Eye systems, and thus is “model-independent.” Further, intuitive zoom, pan, tilt, and attitude adjustment parameters may be used with the image conversion block, to allow control of the conversion by users lacking advanced understanding of optics.

TL;DR: In this article, an image of an individual is obtained using a digital camera and the image data is then processed by ratio determination module (10) and an image conversion module (12) to determine data representative of the distribution of blood and melanin in the skin of the imaged individual.
Abstract: An image of an individual (2) is obtained using a digital camera (1). The image data is then processed by ratio determination module (10) and an image conversion module (12) to analyse the image and determine data representative of the distribution of blood and melanin in the skin of the imaged individual. This chromophore distribution data is then processed by an image generation module (18) which generates an image representative of the expected appearance of epithelial tissue having the determined distribution of chromophores where the epithelial tissue is under fixed illumination and has a flat spatial geometry and where all the identified melanin is present solely in the epidermis. The presence of dermal melanin can then be identified by comparing the original image data and the image derived from processing the calculated chromophore distributions and identifying where the ratio of these images differs by more than a threshold, the threshold being set at a level above the amount of variation expected due to lighting and geometry differences.

TL;DR: In this article, an image feature analysis with respect to an input image is performed to output image feature vector, and an image generating section generates an output image based on the new parameter value.
Abstract: An image feature analyzing section performs an image feature analysis with respect to an input image to output an image feature vector. A parameter output section stores a plurality of image feature vectors and a plurality of parameters corresponding to the respective image feature vectors and outputs an original parameter value corresponding to an image feature vector. A parameter operation setting section determines contents of an operation of an illumination equation parameter, depending on a prescribed image conversion. A parameter operating section operates the original parameter value in accordance with a prescription of the parameter operation setting section, to obtain a new parameter value. An image generating section generates an output image based on the new parameter value.

TL;DR: The proposed frame rate up-conversion method can provide detailed and improved interpolated images without block artifact, and experimental results with three sets of ultrasound image sequences show the effectiveness of the proposed interpolation method.
Abstract: In this paper, we present an optical flow based frame rate up-conversion method for ultrasound images. The conventional mechanical scan method for multi-planar images has a slow frame rate, thus frame interpolation is desirable for smooth display. In the proposed frame rate up-conversion method, several new interpolated frames are inserted between two input frames, giving smooth renditions to human eyes. We employ a window-based optical flow based method to find accurate motion estimates for frame interpolation. Consequently, the proposed method can provide detailed and improved interpolated images without block artifact. Experimental results with three sets of ultrasound image sequences show the effectiveness of the proposed interpolation method.
