TL;DR: In this article, a simple security function for a 2-dimensional coding system conducting arithmetic processing in the unit of blocks is proposed to suppress increase in a code quantity and deterioration in image quality.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To suppress increase in a code quantity and deterioration in image quality by providing a simple security function to a 2-dimension coding system conducting arithmetic processing in the unit of blocks. CONSTITUTION: Original image data stored in a data storage section 5 at a transmitter side are subject to replacement processing in the unit of blocks of 8m×8n picture elements according to the image conversion mode received from an operation section 1 at an image data replacement section 3 and the result is given to a coding/decoding section 6, in which coding processing is conducted by using DCT arithmetic operation. Then the resulting data are outputted to a communication line by using a communication control section 7. Image data coded through the communication line are received via a communication control section 7 at a receiver side and subject to decoding processing at a coding/decoding section 6 by using DCT arithmetic operation. Then an image data replacement section 3 applies replacement processing to the original image data in the unit of blocks of 8m×8n picture elements and the result is stored in an area of a data storage 5 different from the area for decoded image data.

TL;DR: This work proposes a "Depth Creation by stereo Perception" method that creates more natural and impressive 3D images than ever from input 2D images by their stereo perceptual information, which includes horizontal motion, color, contrast, sharpness, and composition.

TL;DR: In this paper, a magnetic recording head assembly mechanically coupled to a detector unit and electrically coupled to an image conversion system is used to build up a magnetic image, which is subsequently displayed by dusting with magnetic powder which adheres to the magnetic image and which is wholly transferable therefrom to a permanent record.
Abstract: The invention provides apparatus for displaying and printing information applied thereto via an image conversion system which forms part of the apparatus and which involves the mechanical scanning of a primary image by a detector unit. A magnetic recording head assembly mechanically coupled to the detector unit and electrically coupled to the image conversion system scans a magnetic recording surface in synchronism with the scanning action of the detector unit to build up a magnetic image subsequently displayed by dusting with magnetic powder which adheres to the magnetic image and which is wholly transferable therefrom to a permanent record. The primary and permanent images as viewed are the same way round.

TL;DR: This paper describes how miniature miniature solid state cameras can be used as artificial retinas, to take snapshots and moving pictures in monochrome or color, and presents the author's design of an artificial orbit for this synthetic eye.
Abstract: Machine vision is an important component of medical systems engineering. Inexpensive miniature solid state cameras are now available. This paper describes how these devices can be used as artificial retinas, to take snapshots and moving pictures in monochrome or color. Used in pairs, they produce a stereoscopic field of vision and enable depth perception. Macular and peripheral vision can be simulated electronically. This paper also presents the author's design of an artificial orbit for this synthetic eye. The orbit supports the eye, protects it, and provides attachment points for the ocular motion control system. Convergence and image fusion can be produced, and saccades simulated, along with the other ocular motions. The use of lenses, filters, irises and focusing mechanisms are also discussed. Typical camera-computer interfaces are described, including the use of "frame grabbers" and analog-to-digital image conversion. Software programs for eye positioning, image manipulation, feature extraction and object recognition are discussed, including the application of artificial neural networks.

TL;DR: In this paper, a stereoscopic video image conversion circuit is proposed to convert a 2D video software into a 3D video image software in a simulating way without the need for a specific eyeglass.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To convert a 2-dimension video software into a 3-dimension video image software in a simulating way without the need for a specific eyeglass and producing an exclusive 3-dimension video image software. CONSTITUTION: A composite video signal received by a video circuit 5 is subjected to video image processing to convert it into a 2-dimension video signal and then it is fed to a stereoscopic video image conversion circuit 6, in which the 2-dimension video image video signal is converted into a 3-dimension video image signal. The 3-dimension video image signal from the stereoscopic video image conversion circuit 6 and the 2-dimension video image signal from the video image circuit 5 is switched by a 2D/3D changeover circuit 7 and the switched signal is displayed by a display means 8. In an audio signal system, a pseudo stereo audio signal or a stereo signal is generated from a monaural audio signal received by a multiplex demodulation circuit 9. An audio changeover circuit 11 selectively switches the audio signals. The switched signal is outputted from loudspeakers 10R, 10L via an amplifier means 12 whose gain is varied with a CPU being a component of the stereoscopic video image conversion circuit 6.
