Abstract: In image processing, many algorithms are designed to operate on grayscale images. This is because of speed, memory or algorithm restrictions. Color images need to be converted to grayscale in order to apply the algorithms. Converting large color images to grayscale can be done by using either the CPU or the GPU. Even if restricted by the power consumption, mobile GPUs and CPUs have enough processing power to be viable options in the situation where no desktop equivalent is available. This paper will investigate the grayscale image conversion on mobile platforms, and compare the CPU and GPU processing in both speeds and operation complexity.

SOLUTION: The image converter 1 includes: a video object detecting means 20 for detecting a prescribed kind of a video object from an input image H and outputting kind information Q and position information P; a magnification object video object selecting means 30 for selecting the video object to match a predetermined condition among the detected video objects as the specified video object based on the kind information Q and the position information P; a video object area segmenting means 40 for segmenting a partial image T from the input image H which includes the specified video object; an image varying means 100 having an entire image varying means 10 for generating the pair of images in relation where the partial image T is relatively magnified with respect to the input image H (the whole image), and a partial image varying means 50; and an image synthesizing means 60 for performing the synthesis of the paired entire image and partial image. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a change area extracting device by which a change area between image data is automatically extracted. SOLUTION: A stereo correspondence point estimating part 14 specifies a correspondence point based on a max. image correlative value which is calculated based on the image value of a specified position between image data of a stereo pair where a prescribed image conversion processing is executed by a rectification processing part 13. A change area extraction processing part 15 generates a change extraction map concerning the change area in the form of binary data to be one of the values '0' or '1' based on the max. image correlative value in the correspondence point specified by the stereo correspondence point estimating part 14 and based on a previously set correlative threshold. The generated change extraction map is held in a change area information storing part 16.
