TL;DR: This paper describes RIME (Replicated IMage dEtector), an alternative approach to watermarking for detecting unauthorized image copying on the Internet and shows that it can detect image copies effectively.
Abstract: This paper describes RIME (Replicated IMage dEtector), an alternative approach to watermarking for detecting unauthorized image copying on the Internet. RIME profiles internet images and stores the feature vectors of the images and their URLs in its repository. When a copy detection request is received, RIME matches the requested image's feature vector with the vectors stored in the repository and returns a list of suspect URLs. RIME characterizes each image using Daubechies' wavelets. The wavelet coefficients are stored as the feature vector. RIME uses a multidimensional extensible hashing scheme to index these high-dimensional feature vectors. Our preliminary result shows that it can detect image copies effectively: It can find the top suspects and copes well with image format conversion, resampling, and requantization.

Abstract: A computer network server using HTTP (Web) server software combined with foreground view composer software, background view composer software, a view tile cache, view tile cache garbage collector software, and image files provides image view data to client workstations using graphical Web browsers to display the view of an image from the server. Problems with specialized client workstation image view software are eliminated by using the Internet and industry standards-based graphical Web browsers for the client software. Network and system performance problems that previously existed when accessing large image files from a network file server are eliminated by tiling the image view so that computation and transmission of the view data can be done in an incremental fashion. The view tiles are cached on the client workstation to further reduce network traffic. View tiles are cached on the server to reduce the amount of view tile computation and to increase responsiveness of the image view server.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide methods, systems, articles of manufacture, and signal formats for transferring disk images from a transmitting computer to one or more downloading computers in a manner that allows a technician to start the download to one computer while preparing a second computer for downloading or shutting down a third computer after it has finished downloading the disk image.
Abstract: Methods, systems, articles of manufacture, and signal formats are provided for transferring disk images from a transmitting computer to one or more downloading computers. The transfer is done in a manner that allows a technician to start the download to one computer while preparing a second computer for downloading or shutting down a third computer after it has finished downloading the disk image. The computers need not wait for the beginning of a data stream but can instead join the download at specified points within the data stream. This reduces the time spent waiting to begin the download, particularly when the disk image being transferred is large. Compression and connection selection may be performed in response to changes in network performance. Image file packing and error management techniques may also be used, as well as on-the-fly file system instance manipulations.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method and apparatus for transmitting images from a first processing system to a second processing system over a communication link during a multimedia teleconference is described, in which a communication device in the first system is queried for the current bandwidth of the communication link, and a subset of an image file is selected.
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for transmitting images from a first processing system to a second processing system over a communication link during a multimedia teleconference. In response to a user input at the first processing system requesting transmission of the image, a communication device in the first processing system is queried for the current bandwidth of the communication link. The communication device returns an indication of the current bandwidth, and in response to the indication, a subset of an image file is selected. The subset corresponds to one of multiple possible levels of resolution of the image. The selected subset of the image file is then transmitted to the second processing system over the communication link, such that the second processing system can display the image at full size, but at a resolution less than the full resolution if necessary, given the current bandwidth.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a method and system for downloading graphic images on the network, at least one high-resolution graphic image file of a reference image is stored at a network server.
Abstract: In a method and system for downloading graphic images on the Network, at least one high-resolution graphic image file of a reference image is stored at a network server. At least part of the reference image is compressed and downloaded at reduced resolution from the network server to a client connected to the network server. Upon suitable decompression, a corresponding low-resolution image is displayed and size data uniquely specifying a portion of the displayed image is uploaded from the client to the network server. The specified portion of the high-resolution graphic image file is extracted from the network server and downloaded to the client where it is displayed. Such an approach obviates the need to transfer high-resolution data intensive graphic files to the client and further allows the heavy image processing to be performed on the server much faster than is achieved in prior approaches where processing is performed locally at the client.

TL;DR: In this article, a system for reproducing images and method thereof is described, where an image acquisition device belonging to the system acquires the image and converts the image into indicia, which is defined by a digitally encoded compressed representation of the image in the form of one or more data image files.
Abstract: System for reproducing images and method thereof. An image acquisition device belonging to the system acquires the image and converts the image into indicia, which is defined by a digitally encoded compressed representation of the image in the form of one or more data image files. The image files are downloaded to a first printer which prints the indicia onto a first recording medium. The indicia printed on the first recording medium may overlay the image without interfering with enjoyment of the image because the indicia is printed in an invisible dye. In order to produce a quality reproduction of the original image, a sensor, which is disposed in sensing relationship to the indicia on the first recording medium, senses the indicia and generates a digital output signal in response to the indicia sensed thereby. An imaging device, such as a second printer, coupled to the sensor accepts the digital output signal and prints the quality reproduction of the image, including indicia, onto a second recording medium in accordance with the sensor output signal. The reproduction of the image can itself be reproduced in the same manner in order to provide a second quality reproduction. Of course, as many quality reproductions as desired may be provided in this manner. Each reproduction has the same quality as the original image because each reproduction is produced from the digital indicia printed on each reproduction. Also, rather than being printed, the reproduced image, which has the same quality as the original, may be displayed on a suitable monitor or electronically transmitted by means of one or more telecommunication systems.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a method for setting accompanying information such as necessity of printing an image when the image is being replayed in a replay mode, for example, when a user shifts a mode to a re-recording execution mode, based on the stored information having been set.
Abstract: In the case where images photographed by a digital camera or the like are recorded in a recording medium at a predetermined resolution or compression rate upon photographing and the data representing the image are re-recorded therein after being read and resolution-converted or re-compressed, a target of re-recording can be specified by a simple operation and damage due an erroneous input can be minimized. A function is provided for setting accompanying information such as necessity of printing an image when the image is being replayed in a replay mode, for example. The information having been set is described in a tag of an image file and recorded together with the image. When a user shifts a mode to a re-recording execution mode, necessity of re-recording is judged based on the stored information having been set. A re-recording target image file is then read from a memory card and re-recorded therein after a resolution conversion or compression processing carried out on the image data.
