TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose to assign metadata to each image file and categorize each image according to one or more metadata schemes, such as image date, image subject, and image location.
Abstract: Data for electronic images is stored in a server. Metadata is assigned to each image file and categorizes each image according to one or more schemes. Possible metadata schemes include image date, one or more image subjects, and image location. The image files may then be searched based on the assigned metadata. Images may be stored in a database that includes at least one virtual folder corresponding to each metadata scheme, with each image having at least one entry in each folder. Each folder may further have subfolders that correspond to sub-categories of a categorization scheme. Each image may then have an entry in each subfolder which describes a part of the image metadata. A date search interface allows a user to select a year of interest, then a month, and then a day. A location search interface allows a user to select a subregion of a displayed region.

TL;DR: In this paper, a system and method is disclosed that compresses and decompresses images, which includes an encoder (130) which compresses images and stores such compressed images in a unique file format, and a decoder (110) which decompresses the images.
Abstract: A system and method is disclosed that compresses and decompresses images The compression system and method (126, 128, 130, 132) includes an encoder (130) which compresses images and stores such compressed images in a unique file format, and a decoder (110) which decompresses images The encoder (130) optimizes the encoding process to accommodate different image types with fuzzy logic methods (152) that automatically analyze and decompose a source image, classify its components, select the optimal compression method for each component, and determine the optimal parameters of the selected compression methods The encoding methods inlcude: a Reed Spline Filter (138), a discrete cosine transform (136), a differential pulse code modulator (140), and enhancement analyzer (144), an adaptive vector quantizer (134) and a channel encoder (132) to generate a plurality of data segments that contain the compressed image The plurality of data segments are layered in the compressed file (104) to optimize the decoding process The first layer allows the decoder (110) to display the compressed image as a miniature or a coarse quality full sized image, the decoder (110) then adds additional detail and sharpness to the displayed image as each new layer is received The decoder (110) uses optimal decompression methods to expand the compressed image file

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a system, method, and computer program product for displaying a patent document and a patent image on the same display, such that at least a portion of a patent text file is displayed in a first window and at least one portion of the patent image file in a second window and the windows may be selectively viewed simultaneously or individually on the display.
Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product for displaying a patent document and a patent image. The method operates by preparing for display a patent document comprised of at least one patent text file, and a patent image document comprised of at least one patent image file. The patent text file is generated from at least one source text file. The patent text file includes equivalency information detailing an equivalency relationship between the patent image file and the source text file. The equivalency information comprises linking information indicative of a correspondence between at least one portion of the source text file and at least one portion of the patent image file. The patent image file is at least one data file having stored therein one or more image pages associated with a patent. Each of the image pages is an electronic image of at least a portion of a page of the patent or at least a portion of a page of a document related to the patent. The source text file is at least one data file having stored therein text data representing textual data in the patent. A user interface is generated for display on the display. The user interface selectively displays the patent text file and the patent image file on the display, such that at least a portion of the patent text file is displayed in a first window and at least a portion of the patent image file is displayed in a second window and the windows may be selectively viewed simultaneously or individually on the display.

TL;DR: This paper describes RIME (Replicated IMage dEtector), an alternative approach to watermarking for detecting unauthorized image copying on the Internet and shows that it can detect image copies effectively.
Abstract: This paper describes RIME (Replicated IMage dEtector), an alternative approach to watermarking for detecting unauthorized image copying on the Internet. RIME profiles internet images and stores the feature vectors of the images and their URLs in its repository. When a copy detection request is received, RIME matches the requested image's feature vector with the vectors stored in the repository and returns a list of suspect URLs. RIME characterizes each image using Daubechies' wavelets. The wavelet coefficients are stored as the feature vector. RIME uses a multidimensional extensible hashing scheme to index these high-dimensional feature vectors. Our preliminary result shows that it can detect image copies effectively: It can find the top suspects and copes well with image format conversion, resampling, and requantization.
