TL;DR: In this paper, a modern computer operating system is altered to boot and run from a protected medium such as a CD-ROM, where files and configuration information are copied from a fully configured and operational OS to a hard drive image file.
Abstract: A modern computer operating system is altered to boot and run from a protected medium such as a CD-ROM. Files and configuration information are copied from a fully configured and operational OS to a hard drive image file. File system filters and device drivers are added that implement an emulated read-write hard disk drive by servicing initial read requests from the image file, and write requests and read requests to previously written data, from a written disk sector database. The OS is altered to load the filters and drivers during boot, and to subsequently run from the emulated read-write hard disk drive. The hard drive image file is then placed on a bootable protected medium.

TL;DR: In this article, a system for managing large quantities of business related documents stored electronically requires little or no reliance on the corresponding hardcopy versions, thus overcoming the previous difficulty in implementing paperless office environments.
Abstract: A system for managing large quantities of business related documents stored electronically requires little or no reliance on the corresponding hardcopy versions. The management system data includes a processing approach that allows for the creation of documents electronically, i.e., by virtual documents the system users in concert with their everyday business activities--thus overcoming the previous difficulty in implementing paperless office environments. In particular, essentially all documents are stored as system available image files on a central image server. Organization of these image based virtual documents are created during initial document review by the users having review responsibilities in the first instance. During the review process, the system provides a highly intelligent user interface which permits the creation of indexing values corresponding to the document in a highly simplified and intuitive manner. This permits the rapid and burden free preparation of document indices to support useful interaction with the image based virtual document--thus eliminating the need for any supporting hardcopy.

01 Sep 2009TL;DR: This paper proposes a technique based on bit sequence matching to identify fragments created by the same Huffman code tables and addresses the construction of a pseudo header needed for recovery of stand-alone file fragments.
Abstract: Recovery of fragmented files proves to be a challenging task for encoded files like JPEG. In this paper, we consider techniques for addressing two issues related to fragmented JPEG file recovery. First issue concerns more efficient identification of the next fragment of a file undergoing recovery. Second issue concerns the recovery of file fragments which cannot be linked to an existing image header or for which there is no available image header. Current file recovery approaches are not well suited to deal with these practical issues. In addressing these problems, we utilize JPEG file format specifications. More specifically, we propose a technique based on bit sequence matching to identify fragments created by the same Huffman code tables. We also address the construction of a pseudo header needed for recovery of stand-alone file fragments. Some experimental results are provided to support our claims.

30 Jun 2005TL;DR: In this paper, a digital camera receives position information from GPS satellites for detecting camera position when capturing an image, and additional information composed of the camera position, camera azimuth and focal distance of the taking lens is added to image data of the captured image as tag and recorded in an image file.
Abstract: A digital camera receives position information from GPS satellites for detecting camera position when capturing an image. Additional information, which is composed of the camera position, camera azimuth and focal distance of the taking lens, is added to image data of the captured image as tag and recorded in an image file. When the captured image is reproduced, the map image generated according to the additional information is displayed below the captured image, covering an area from the image capture point toward the subject in the captured image. Field view lines and map symbols indicating the subjects are displayed in the map image. Further, the map image includes the extension line which passes the map symbol and is extended to the subject in the captured image for showing the correspondence between the map symbol and the subject.

05 Dec 2003TL;DR: In this paper, an information processing device, which works as a recording device, creates a Clip Information file of a still image file (TS file) composed of a plurality of still images.
Abstract: An information processing device, which works as a recording device, creates a Clip Information file of a still image file (TS file) composed of a plurality of still images, creates a Playlist composed of a plurality of PlayItems indicating the reproduction path of a slide show, and records this information and the TS file on a DVD. The Clip Information file includes an EPlmap, which is a table indicating the correspondence between the values of presentation type stamps PTS of the TS and the source packet numbers SPN in the TS indicated by the values. An information processing device, which works as a reproduction device, obtains the data addresses of the TS indicated by the Play Item reproduction start time, INltime, and the reproduction end time, OUTltime, and reproduces still images by referencing the EPlmap of the Clip Information and reading information therefrom.
