Abstract: An image data management device, that records image data captured by a digital camera together with information indicating the use period of the image data, searches for image files captured by the digital camera and checks the use period of the image data which has been found. When the use period of the image file has expired, the image data management device deletes the image file.

Metric conversion mechanism for digital images in a hierarchical, multi-resolution, multi-use environment

Abstract: A mechanism for facilitating metric conversion of digitized images intended for use with a multi-resolution, multi-application environment is integrated into the encoding and decoding mechanisms of the hierarchical database, such that stored residual image files contain metric change information. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the metric conversion operator is executed upon a relatively low spatial resolution file, thereby resulting in a substantial reduction in processing overhead, as advantage is taken of the availability of the reduced size of the lower spatial resolution base file within the hierarchical database, so that a metric conversion may be performed on the relatively small number of pixels within the base file, prior to up-converting the image to a relatively high spatial resolution image, such as a 2048 X 3072 pixel image for driving a high resolution digital thermal color printer.

Image data communication method

Abstract: A data transmitting device transmits a print file showing file names of image files and print conditions to a data receiving device, and the data receiving device stores the received print file in a storage medium. Then, the data receiving device requests one of the image files from the data transmitting according to the file names shown in the print file, and the data transmitting device transmits the one of the image files to the data receiving device in response to the request. The data receiving device stores the one of the image files in a storage medium and prints the image in the print condition shown in the print file, and the data receiving device and the data transmitting device repeat the steps for each of the image files.
