TL;DR: Two-dimensional gold nanostructures fabricated by electrochemical deposition of gold nanoparticles onto indium tin oxide (ITO) glass substrate modified with thin polypyrrole film showed superhydrophobic properties and showed high catalytic activity on electrochemical reduction of oxygen.
Abstract: Two-dimensional gold nanostructures have been fabricated by electrochemical deposition of gold nanoparticles onto indium tin oxide (ITO) glass substrate modified with thin polypyrrole film. By controlling the electrodeposition conditions, gold nanoparticles with dendritic rod, sheet, flower-like (consisting of staggered nanosheets), and pinecone-like structures were generated. The flower-like gold nanoparticles showed high catalytic activity on electrochemical reduction of oxygen, and its activity was measured to be approximately 25 times that of gold pinecones and 104 times that of gold nanosheets in terms of gold weight. The pinecone-like nanoparticles can form a compact film with nano-/microscale binary structure like a lotus leaf surface. After modification with n-dodecanethiol, the surface showed superhydrophobic properties with a water contact angle of 153.4° and a tilt angle of 4.4° (5 μL droplet).

TL;DR: A flexible transparent conductor on plastic with embedded silver networks which is used to achieve flexible, highly power-efficient large-area green and white OLEDs exhibit a power efficiency of 106 lm W(-1) at 1000 cd m(-2) with angular color stability, which is significantly higher than all other reports of flexiblewhite OLEDs.
Abstract: Because of their mechanical flexibility, organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) hold great promise as a leading technology for display and lighting applications in wearable electronics. The development of flexible OLEDs requires high-quality transparent conductive electrodes with superior bendability and roll-to-roll manufacturing compatibility to replace indium tin oxide (ITO) anodes. Here, we present a flexible transparent conductor on plastic with embedded silver networks which is used to achieve flexible, highly power-efficient large-area green and white OLEDs. By combining an improved outcoupling structure for simultaneously extracting light in waveguide and substrate modes and reducing the surface plasmonic losses, flexible white OLEDs exhibit a power efficiency of 106 lm W–1 at 1000 cd m–2 with angular color stability, which is significantly higher than all other reports of flexible white OLEDs. These results represent an exciting step toward the realization of ITO-free, high-efficiency OLEDs for us...

TL;DR: In this article, Nb-doped anatase TiO2 [Ti0.94Nb0.06O2 (TNO)] films with high electrical conductivity and transparency were fabricated on nonalkali glass using pulsed laser deposition and subsequent annealing in a H2 atmosphere.
Abstract: Nb-doped anatase TiO2 [Ti0.94Nb0.06O2 (TNO)] films with high electrical conductivity and transparency were fabricated on nonalkali glass using pulsed laser deposition and subsequent annealing in a H2 atmosphere. The amorphous films as deposited on unheated substrates were found to crystallize, forming polycrystalline films at around 350°C. The films annealed at 500°C showed resistivity down to 4.6×10−4Ωcm at room temperature and optical transmittance of 60%–80% in the visible region, which are comparable to those of epitaxial films. These results indicate that TNO films have the potential to be practical transparent conducting oxides that could replace indium tin oxide.

TL;DR: In this paper, a III-nitride based blue vertical cavity surface emitting laser using defect-free highly reflective AlInN/GaN distributed Bragg reflectors grown on c-plane free-standing GaN substrates.
Abstract: We report on III-nitride based blue vertical cavity surface emitting lasers using defect-free highly reflective AlInN/GaN distributed Bragg reflectors grown on c-plane free-standing GaN substrates. Lasing is demonstrated at room temperature under pulsed electrical injection. The high lasing threshold current density still prevents devices from continuous wave lasing because of large self-heating. The reasons for such a high threshold are discussed and we show that it mainly comes from large light absorption in the indium tin oxide current spreading layer. Properly tuning both its thickness and its position with respect to the electrical field could remarkably decrease the threshold.

TL;DR: In this article, an empirical guideline for designing hole transport materials (HTMs) that suppress rises in driving voltage even with a few hundred nanometer thick film in the organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs).
Abstract: In this study, the authors show an empirical guideline for designing hole transport materials (HTMs) that suppress rises in driving voltage even with a few hundred nanometer thick film in the organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). In a device structure of indium tin oxide (110nm)/hole transport layer (HTL) (Xnm)∕4,4′-N,N′-bis[N-(1-naphthyl)-N-phenyl-amino]biphenyl (10nm)/tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum (Alq3) (50nm)∕MgAg (100nm)∕Ag (10nm), the authors compared electroluminescence characteristics of the OLEDs having a thin-film HTL (X=50nm) and a thick-film HTL (X=300nm) using 13 kinds of HTMs. They observed a closed correlation between suppression of the driving voltage and the HTMs’ thermal characteristics. Highly thermally stable HTMs resulted in a small increase in the driving voltage.
