TL;DR: The results obtained and performance gains achieved thus far with the capacitive edge-sensing system as well as a performance comparison of the Fogale inductive sensor to the capacitance-based edge sensor are presented.
Abstract: The SAMS (Segment Alignment Measurement System) is a capacitance-based edge sensing solution for the active alignment of the 10m SALT segmented primary mirror. Commissioning and calibrating the system has been an ongoing task in an attempt to counteract the unfavourable response of the sensors to high humidity conditions and high dust levels. Several solutions were implemented and tested including real-time feedback systems and the application of corrective functions. In parallel with the continuing efforts to improve the performance of the capacitive sensors, we have also been testing a prototype inductive sensor developed by Fogale Nanotech that is of a very similar flexible plate construction. In this paper we present the results obtained and performance gains achieved thus far with the capacitive edge-sensing system as well as a performance comparison of the Fogale inductive sensor to the capacitive edge sensor.

Abstract: The inductive sensor according to the invention comprises several coils (B1-B4) connected electrically in series and arranged in a polygonal contour, so as to surround the conductor which is to be measured current. Each coil comprises windings disposed on an insulating carcase (C 1 -C 4) and connecting elements. Carcasses (C 1 -C 4) are arranged on one side of a printed circuit (30) provided with a central recess through which the driver can switch. The circuit board (30) carries conductive tracks interconnecting the fixing points of connection elements together or to external connection members. The invention allows to simplify the production of the sensor and to facilitate the coil connection therebetween and with the electronic processing circuit. '

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe layers of security sensors to determine the status of a container from point of departure to a final destination of the container, including an inductive sensor couples with an optical sensor to detect intrusions, a door switch sensor, and an RFID reader in communications with RFID tags embedded in the cargo and other sensors throughout the cargo hold.
Abstract: This invention describes layers of security sensors to determine the status of a container from point of departure to a final destination of the container. In particular, the present invention discloses the use of at least three levels of security applied to a single cargo container including an inductive sensor couples with an optical sensor to detect intrusions, a door switch sensor, and an RFID reader in communications with RFID tags embedded in the cargo and other sensors throughout the cargo hold. Security layering not only serves as a deterrent but also serves as an active defensive security system for establishing security “gates.”

TL;DR: In this article, a textile-based inductive sensor using machine embroidery method was used to measure heart rate and respiration in every case with five subjects, and the analysis result showed that the locations of the R-peak in the ECG signal were highly associated with sharp peaks in the signals obtained through the textile based inductive sensors (r=0.9681).
Abstract: In this study, we developed a feasible structure of a textile-based inductive sensor using a machine embroidery method, and applied it to a non-contact type vital sign sensing device based on the principle of magnetic-induced conductivity. The mechanical heart activity signals acquired through the inductive sensor embroidered with conductive textile on fabric were compared with the Lead II ECG signals and with respiration signals, which were simultaneously measured in every case with five subjects. The analysis result showed that the locations of the R-peak in the ECG signal were highly associated with sharp peaks in the signals obtained through the textile-based inductive sensor (r=0.9681). Based on the results, we determined the feasibility of the developed textile-based inductive sensor as a measurement device for the heart rate and respiration characteristics.
