TL;DR: In this paper, a two-dimensional capacitive position sensor is used to detect the position of an object with respect to the screen, and a two dimensional inductive position sensor for detecting an intermediate coupler for detecting the position in the form of a pen or stylus.
Abstract: A navigation arrangement for an electronic device that includes a screen, comprises: (i) a substantially transparent two dimensional capacitive position sensor that can be located over a screen of the device, and which can detect the position of an object with respect to the screen, and (ii) a two dimensional inductive position sensor for detecting the position of an intermediate coupler for example in the form of a pen or stylus with respect to the screen. The inductive position sensor comprises a transmit aerial for transmitting a signal, and a receive aerial for receiving the signal via the intermediate coupler so that the position of the intermediate coupler can be determined- The wiring of the inductive position sensor may be formed from a transparent conductor, or it may be arranged around the edge of the screen or behind the screen to enable the user to view the screen. Further forms of inductive position sensor, with or without capacitive position sensors, can enable a user to view a screen, for example by placing the inductive sensor tracks around the screen, or by connecting transparent conductors in parallel using low resistance busbars at the edge of the screen. Inductive position sensors may also be arranged to determine the position of the intermediate coupler in three directions, optionally in combination with other forms of sensor, and also to determine its orientation.

Abstract: A capacitance detecting proximity sensor forms a proximity detection range in a spatially open region, avoids the effects resulting from peripheral objects outside the detection target, and enables proximity detection with few malfunctions. The proximity sensor includes: a first detection electrode and a second detection electrode that are disposed to have a predetermined range difference h with respect to a detection direction Y in which a detection subject comes into proximity to the proximity sensor and are independent from a ground potential; and a proximity detection circuit that outputs, as a proximity detection output, the difference between a capacitance to ground Ca formed by the first detection electrode and a capacitance to ground Cb formed by the second detection electrode.

TL;DR: In this paper, the tension force in the cable laid from a winch, the length of the cable and measured values of cable ducts are converted into electrical values for evaluation and display by a microprocessor system.
Abstract: The tension force in the cable laid from a winch, the length of the laid cable and measured values of cable ducts are converted into electrical values for evaluation and display by a microprocessor system. In Fig. 1, the cable tension is derived from strain gauges 3 on a shaft 1 bearing a pulley 2 over which the cable passes. A magnetic or optical sensor 4,5 measures the length of the cable and by combination with a time signal, the speed can also be obtained. The tension can alternatively be derived by measuring the lateral deflection of a pulley using an inductive sensor or by incorporating an inductive sensor in a cable termination device which can also measure parameters of a duct in which the cable is being laid.

TL;DR: In this article, a pair of non-linear amplifiers are interconnected so that the output of one amplifier is the input of the other amplifier, and an inductive sensor is connected between the outputs of the amplifiers.
Abstract: A device powered by a DC source produces an output signal the frequency of which changes as a function of changes in external magnetic fields sensed by such device. A pair of non-linear amplifiers are interconnected so that the output of one amplifier is the input of the other amplifier. An inductive sensor is connected between the outputs of the amplifiers. The inductive sensor has an elongated magnetic core and a coil is wound on the core. The voltages at the outputs of the amplifiers, across the inductive sensor, switch between zero and the full voltage of the DC source.

TL;DR: A sensor for measuring angular displacement of a small body comprising a sealed housing containing a differential transformer having at least two primary coils (17, 18), one primary (67) and two secondary coils (65, 66, 66), or two primary (27, 28), and two Secondary coils (25, 29), being partially submerged in a ferromagnetic fluid will vary as the sensor is tilted as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: A sensor for measuring angular displacement of a small body comprising a sealed housing containing a differential transformer having at least two primary coils (17, 18), one primary (67) and two secondary coils (65, 66), or two primary (27, 28) and two secondary coils (25, 29), said coils being partially submerged in a ferromagnetic fluid. The level of fluid relative to the coils will vary as the sensor is tilted. When AC current is applied to at least the primary coils of the transformer, the voltage across the circuit defined by the two primary coils or the two secondary coils is indicative of the angle of tilt of the sensor and the body to which it is attached.
