Abstract: An apparatus for sensing variations in an inductive field, or inductive sensor. The inductive sensor (10) is adapted for detecting the lateral offset of a vehicle within a roadway, especially those with multiple traffic lanes, without regard to lane boundaries, which may vary. Lateral offset information is necessary for determining lane usage statistics and is useful in detecting unsafe driving behaviors evidenced by erratic variations in lane position. Such unsafe driving behaviors are indicative of, for example, intoxicated or drowsy drivers, obstacles in the roadway requiring drastic avoidance measures, aggressive driving and other generally unsafe roadway conditions. In addition, lane position information can be passed back to the vehicle to allow for automated lane-keeping or passed to other detectors for self-calibration of the system.

Abstract: The invention relates to a system of sensors (10, 11, 12, 13), in which each sensor detects a magnetic or electrical field and outputs, at its sensor outputs (21, 22, 23, 24), an electric sensor basic signal. The sensor outputs (21, 22) of each of the sensors (10, 11, 12, 13) are connected to the inputs (41, 42, 43, 44) of a signal modulator (30, 31), whereby the signal modulator (30, 31) has at least two control states. The invention also relates to a method for operating the sensor system whereby, in different configurations of the sensor system, system signals are queried and calculated together. The inventive sensor system is advantageous in that it can carry out different types of magnetic field measurements with utmost flexibility.

Abstract: An inductive sensor includes a primary winding, two secondary windings and a moveable target, the primary winding being centered about a central axis and carrying a high-frequency alternating current which can induce a voltage in secondary windings, the secondary windings also being centered about the central axis and made up of a number k of substantially identical loops, which are successively crossed and arranged opposite the primary winding. In this case, the target is made up of a part having p=1 angular sector with an angular opening. The opening of the angular sector of the target is less than that of a loop of secondary winding with a deviation calculated such as to eliminate the fourth harmonic of the linearity deviation Fourier decomposition, between the measured angular value and real angular value for the position of the target over the measurement course.

Abstract: A sensor assembly for a vehicle electronic braking system including a housing, at least one linear sensor, the at least one sensor contained within the housing, the linear sensor adapted to measure the linear distance traveled of a brake pedal. The assembly further includes a rotary sensor, the rotary sensor also contained within the same housing, the rotary sensor adapted to measure rotary motion of a DC motor in an the electronic braking system. The rotary sensor and the at least one linear sensor each in communication with a brake control unit. The at least one linear sensor and the at least one rotary sensor is encapsulated, either together or separately. The at least one linear sensor is a Hall-effect sensor. A wake up switch circuit is integrated with at least one of the linear sensors to wake up the system when the driver depresses the brake pedal in the electronic braking system. The rotary sensor is an inductive sensor.
